How to block FlashGet pop-up ads in Windows system

When I go online, IE always has a pop-up window. Even if I close IE, I can't stop it. It turned out that this was brought by the advertising system of FlashGet (Internet Express). FlashGet's advertising system consists of two parts: a banner ad in the FlashGet program window and a random pop-up ad. Before version 1.6, FlashGet will also be installed with a FlashGet adware. The adware has some self-protection features and cannot be uninstalled separately. After version 1.6, the adware was directly integrated into the FlashGet software. When the freeware mode was selected when FlashGet was installed, the adware started working. Once the FlashGet download software is used, the advertising system will automatically download the advertising content via the Internet and pop the advertising window onto the user's desktop.

First, the principle of advertising shielding

If we want to remove these ads, we must first understand the shielding principle of advertising. That is to use the security management authority of NTFS to protect the folder where the advertisement is stored, and prohibit any program from accessing the folder, so that the new advertisement content cannot be downloaded and saved, thereby achieving the purpose of shielding the advertisement display.

Second, how to block ads

Now look at how to specifically block this ad. Follow the steps below:

1. Determine the folder location where the FlashGet ad is stored. The location of the folder where the FlashGet advertisement is stored varies with the FlashGet version. Generally, it is in the following two locations:

(1) The Adcache subfolder under the System32 folder of the system folder (on Windows XP) Generally speaking: C:\\Windows\\System32\\Adcache).

(2) The Ads subfolder under the FlashGet installation folder (usually in Windows XP: C:\\Program Files\\FlashGet\\Ads). This folder is not created by the installer at the time of software installation, but is automatically created the first time an ad is downloaded.

2. Exit FlashGet and delete all files and subfolders under the ad folder.

3. Right-click the ad folder and click the "Properties" command in the shortcut menu to open the property settings window of the subfolder. Click the "Security" tab (Figure 1), delete all users in the "Group or User Name" or set all permissions for all users to "Reject". Click the "Advanced" button to clear the "Inherit from the parent to those rights items that can be applied to child objects, including those explicitly defined here" checkbox (Figure 2). In the "Security" dialog that appears, click the "Delete" button. Once logged out, everyone will not be able to access the ad subfolder.

turn to other advertising documents Do the same folder. Finally, you can shield your FlashGet ads.

This method is limited to: It is only applicable to operating systems such as Windows 2000 or Windows XP and requires the partition format to be NTFS.

Note:

Sometimes there are no "safe" tags in the folder properties of some operating systems. This can be solved by the following methods (for Windows XP Pro): Execute "Control Panel → Administrative Tools→Local Security Settings, expand Security Settings→Local Policies→Security Options, navigate to the Network Access, Local Account Sharing and Security Mode item, and change the setting to Classic-Local User Authentication ", you can quit.
