Using WinRAR to make Win 9x power-on password program

[computer software and hardware application network tutorial] Windows 9X comes with the power-on password program security is really flattering, there are articles introduced by modifying the registry to improve the power-on password Security, I am here to introduce a method of homemade boot password program.

1. Open Notepad and type "C:\\Windows\\EXPLORER.EXE" (where C: is the drive where Windows is located), select "File - Save", and select "All Files" in the save type. The file name is *.bat, then check the "Close on exit" item in the "Programs" tab of the *.bat file properties and set the run mode to "Minimize" (this will look a little better). After confirming the exit, Windows will automatically create a PIF file with the same name as the BAT.

2. Run WinRAR to create a new compressed package, add the *.bat and *.pif files, and encrypt the compressed package. The password of the compressed package is the power-on password you want to add. After encrypting, click the "SFX" button or press the shortcut key "ALT+S" (create a self-extracting file), select "Windows GUI RAR SFX", click the "Advanced SFX options" button to pop up the advanced settings window, in the "General" tab In the "Run after extraction" field, fill in "*.bat" (the BAT file you just created), check the "Unpack to temporary folder" option in the "Module" tab, and in the "Optional question" and " In the Question title, fill in the question and title of the password prompt (you can be prompted when you forget the password), and click "OK" to complete the creation of the self-extracting file.

3. Next, rename the EXE file generated by WinRAR to "EXPLORER.EXE" and place it in the directory of the drive where Windows is located. Now restart the computer, is it prompted to enter a password? You can't expect this program to be skipped like clicking on the Windows 9X's own power-on password. If you don't believe it, try it. Is it stuck?

Implementation principle:

Windows 9X must load "EXPLORER.EXE" at startup. By default, the directory where the program is located is "C:\\Windows". Windows will search for "EXPLORER.EXE" in the root directory before loading "C:\\Windows\\EXPLORER.EXE". If there is, Windows will load the program first. We named our self-extracting program "EXPLORER.EXE" and placed it in the root directory. Windows will load it first, and our homemade program adds a password, so you will be prompted to enter the password at runtime. It's done! The cracking of this encryption method is also very simple, as long as the "C:\\EXPLORER.EXE" is deleted under DOS, the power-on password is cancelled.
