Windows 7 is not integrated with Live components. You need to download and install it yourself

From September we knew that Windows Live will appear as the default application for Windows 7, but at PDC 2008 we got further details. In order to avoid the confusion of similar applications (such as Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail), and in order to avoid any potential unfair competition litigation, Microsoft decided to keep the Windows Live application online for everyone to download, users need to install it.

These include Windows Live Mail, Messenger, Movie Maker, Photo Gallery, Toolbar, Writer, and the Office Outlook Connector for receiving Hotmail messages, all of which will be packaged for download, which Microsoft calls "Windows Live Essentials".

In Windows 7, Microsoft will encourage (rather than force) OEMs to install these applications by default. If they don't, then Windows 7 will be missing when it comes to Windows 7 Features. In fact, what Microsoft wants to show is that they don't force these components to be bundled, but instead give users the opportunity to choose to install.

Windows Vista does not provide similar Windows Messenger features like Windows XP, and Microsoft provides a download link for Live Messenger components in Vista. In Windows 7, Microsoft will do the same.
