Microsoft: Slim Windows 7 no need to slim down

I believe no one denies that Vista is huge and bloated. The most direct consequence of such a bloated body is that the hard disk space is relatively tight. Therefore, it makes sense to use a third-party tool to streamline the Vista installer. The tool used by most users is Vista-Lite. This free tool gives users the ability to customize the Vista installer, integrate patches, language packs, drivers, and remove unnecessary components, making the final installer very slim. This simplification method differs from some hacking methods in that it guarantees the integrity of the selected installation files.

However, Microsoft is not very happy that users will treat Windows Vista in this way. According to Raymond, they do not recommend that users modify the Vista installation package with tools, and such modifications may cause some instability to occur or even fail to upgrade or deploy security patches.

The bloated Windows Vista seems to make Microsoft a little bit jealous. Undoubtedly, it is not a good thing for users to streamline the installer, which will directly affect the user's experience with the operating system. Therefore, in the development of the next-generation operating system Windows 7, Microsoft has strengthened the development of the system core to ensure that the next-generation operating system is more streamlined and slimmer than the predecessor Vista. It is reported that Microsoft's next-generation operating system core MinWin will become smaller and achieve a real streamlined. Eric Traut, a senior engineer at Microsoft, said that the core MinWin of the next-generation operating system only accounts for 25M of hard disk space, and the RAM occupied by the runtime is only about 40MB. Traut added that Microsoft is still working on the final Windows 7, and its kernel size will be smaller. In comparison, the hard disk space used by Vista running by users now requires several GB. Undoubtedly, the next-generation operating system is slimmer. In Microsoft's view, in the face of such a slim installation package, third-party streamlined tools are redundant.
