Upgraded Win8 How to retrieve files from the Windows.old folder

  
        If you did not choose to keep the file when you upgraded to Windows 8, your files will be temporarily saved to the Windows.old folder (unless you format the hard drive before installation). If you decide to get back some or all of your files, you can still retrieve them step

swipe from the right edge of the screen to the center, click on the "Search" (if you are using a mouse, point to the In the upper right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down and click Search, type "computer" in the search box, and then click or click "Apply" and then "Computer."

Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive C :).

Double-click the Windows.old folder.

Double-click the Users folder.

Double-click your user name.

open a folder that you want to retrieve files. For example, to retrieve a file in the Documents library, double-click Document.

copy the desired folder for each file and paste them into a file folder in Windows8.

Repeat steps 5-7 for each user account on your computer.

Upon completion, you may want to delete the Windows.old folder to save computer space. For more information, see How do I remove the Windows.old folder?
