This issue of "Win8 Encyclopedia" will continue to bring the most practical Win8 operating tips for everyone. Perhaps after using Win8, you find that you can no longer enter the safe mode through F8 like XP and Win7. This issue of "Win8 Encyclopedia" will help you start the security mode under Win8.

How to start safe mode

Safe mode is a very important part of Windows system. We often solve it by entering safe mode when there is a problem in the system, or by deleting those stubborn document. However, in Win8, many users found that F8 can no longer boot into safe mode. This is not to say that Microsoft has canceled the security mode, and we can enter it in another way.
F8 can't be adjusted in Win8.

First, we will slide the mouse to the lower right corner of the screen to bring up the Charm column, and then select Search. Type “msconfig” in the search box so that we can search out the msconfig.exe program and click on it.
Search msconfig.exe

Then we can see the system configuration window, then select the “boot” tab. Under the tab we check "Safe Boot", so that the next time we reboot the system, we will go directly to safe mode.

Here we will also find options such as "minimum", "other shells", these are safe mode specific modes. The “minimum” is a standard security mode, “network” is a secure mode that allows network connections, and “other shells” is a secure mode with a command prompt. In general, we all choose the "minimum" or "network" mode.
Select Secure Boot

It is also important to note that if you want to reboot into normal Windows 8 after using Safe Mode, you will need to perform the same steps in Safe Mode. In the system configuration, "secure boot" will be canceled, otherwise it will still enter safe mode after restart.

System Performance Management

In the previous paragraph, we said how to enter the Win8 security mode to troubleshoot the system, this is nothing more than to make the system run better. But compared to cleaning up after a failure, we recommend that you pay attention to the performance and health of the system.

First, slide the mouse to the lower right corner of the screen to bring up the Charm column, then select Settings and select “Computer Information”. At the bottom left of the "System" window, we are able to see the options for "performance information and tools".
Select performance information and tools

So we enter the performance management interface, where we can rate our system, but mainly about the hardware. What we have to do is to select the "Advanced Tools" on the left.

Here we can see a lot of performance management tools, including "Open Performance Monitor", "Open Resource Monitor" and "Adjust Windows Look and Performance", etc. Wait.

Through the “Generation System Health Report”, we can get the status of the current system in more complete and detailed way, and can solve the problems in the current system according to it.

At the same time, we also recommend that the disk be sorted out in a timely manner through the “Disk Defragmenter”, we can set it every day, week or in the “Change Settings” setting. Automatically optimize the disk once a month.

Continuous optimization and management of the system allows our computer to always run in the fastest state, without having to wait until there is a real problem, because it is likely Caused a certain loss. Of course, if there is a problem, we can enter the safe mode to better solve the problem, and the method of starting the security mode in Win8, I think everyone has already learned.
