Using Win2008's own tools to monitor system reliability

Every time Microsoft introduces a new version of the operating system, many friends often subconsciously focus on the features and functions of the new version of the system, in addition to new features and new In addition to function, we also need to pay more attention to the reliability and performance of the system operation, which is especially important for the server system. After all, if there is no efficient and stable system platform, then other features and functions will not function properly. come out. So in Microsoft's new Windows Server 2008 system, what should we focus on regarding the operational reliability of the system?

Checking the reliability of the system

I believe many of my friends have this experience. Compared with the previous Windows 9x system, the reliability of the current Windows XP/Vista system is getting higher and higher. As long as we can properly handle software and hardware driver compatibility issues, we can effectively reduce the probability of Windows system failure; even if a system failure occurs, as long as it is not very serious, the system's operational reliability will not be significantly affected. For the new Windows Server 2008 system, how can we fully understand its operational reliability? Once we have encountered problems affecting the reliability of the system, how can we solve it?

In fact, the Windows Server 2008 system has built-in system operation reliability monitoring function. Through this function, we can easily understand the reliability of the server system. Right-click the “Computer” icon in the server system desktop and select the “Manage” button from the pop-up shortcut menu to open the server manager window of the system, display the area on the left side of the window, and use the mouse. Expand the “Diagnostics /“Reliability & Performance"/“Monitoring Tools /“Reliability Monitor branch option, in the middle of the corresponding display area is the Reliability Monitor interface. As shown in Figure 1.

We found that the interface contains upper and lower display areas, where the upper area is the system stability chart, which is generated by the system automatically calling the statistics drawing. The lower area shows the system automatically statistics. Data details. From the moment the Windows Server 2008 system is successfully installed, the system will automatically update the statistical data content every day and night, and automatically generate a system stability coefficient. Usually, the coefficient value is 0 to 10. Between, the higher the value, the higher the reliability of the system, and the coefficient value is automatically displayed on the reliability chart of the upper area. From the interface shown in Figure 1, we see that the server system automatically performs reliability statistics on Windows failures, hardware failures, application failures, and software installations.

When we select the reliability factor of a certain day in the interface of Figure 1, we will see the detailed statistics of the day in the system reliability report area, for example, whether there has been a Windows failure on this day. Whether there is a hardware failure, whether the application has been accidentally used during use, whether there have been software installation operations or uninstall operations, etc. According to these statistics, the network administrator can take measures to protect the server system in the first time. The security, for example, can upgrade the hardware driver in time, update the Windows system patch in time, or uninstall the software with potential stability problems from the system in time.

Using the reliability monitor tool of Windows Server 2008 system, we can very intuitively see what happened to the server system during the daily operation, but to check the system reliability in the current state, How to proceed? In fact, it is very simple, we can follow the steps below:

Right-click the "Computer" icon in the server system desktop and select the "Manage" command from the pop-up shortcut menu to open The server manager window of the system displays the area on the left side of the window. Use the mouse to expand the “Diagnostics” and “Reliability and Performance” option. We can clearly see the middle display area of the corresponding option. The reliability status to the server system at the moment (as shown in Figure 2). From the interface of Figure 2, we can see that the system reliability content in the current state includes not only the CPU and network load, but also the working status of the hard disk and memory. Each type of report information is automatically centralized into a sub-project by the system. In the meantime, you can expand them by clicking each project name with the mouse, so that you can view the details under the respective project.

Tip: In addition to viewing the operational reliability of the local server system, we can also use the Reliability Monitor tool to view the operational reliability status of the remote server. When performing remote viewing, we only need to open the “Start” menu of the local server system, select the “Run” command from the “Run” command, and enter the string command “Perfmon” in the pop-up system running dialog box, click Back. After the car key, open the system's Reliability and Performance Monitor tool window, click the “Operation” option in the menu bar of the window, and select “Connect to another computer” from the pop-up drop-down menu. In the pop-up window, select the "Remote Computer" option and enter the host name or IP address of the remote server system, and then click the "OK" button, so that we can open the reliability of the remote server system and The Performance Monitor tool window, in which we can follow the above description to see the operational reliability of the remote server system.

Using View Results to Troubleshoot

When we see from the results reported by the Reliability Monitor that some of the failures in the server system occur frequently, we can first use the various tools provided by the tool. Data analysis to determine the appropriate measures for troubleshooting to improve the operational reliability of the server system. However, many times, although we know that there are fault factors in the server system that cause the system to run unstable, but we don't know how to eliminate the fault factor, we may try to use the problem report and solution function provided by the server system. Function We can send the faults we encounter to Microsoft by anonymous means. After receiving the report information, Microsoft will analyze it in time and will feedback the results to our regular users.

For example, if we don't have a hardware server driver on hand and cannot install the hardware into the server system, we can use the problem reporting and solution features to record the problem. It is then sent anonymously to Microsoft. If Microsoft can provide an effective solution, we will soon receive a solution to the problem. From the results that Microsoft has feedback to us, we may be able to find the server version of the target hardware. If an application running on the server system frequently has compatibility conflicts with the system, after reporting this issue to Microsoft in a timely manner, we may get a solution from Microsoft in the future, for example, Microsoft. Or download or install a specific patch from the software developer, or modify some of the server system's parameter settings, so that the system can continue to avoid compatibility issues in the future.

To take advantage of the problem reporting and solution features, we can click on the “start”/“set”/“control panel” command in the Windows Server 2008 system desktop. In the pop-up system control panel window, double-click the “Question Report and Solution” icon in the pop-up window to open the window shown in Figure 3. If there is a new fault in the server system, it has not been reported to Microsoft. Then we can click the “Show problem to check” option in the display area on the left side of the interface in Figure 3. If the previously reported fault has a suitable solution, then the area on the right side of the interface in Figure 3 will be displayed. The installed solution & rdquo; and “ information about other issues & rdquo; below may display the corresponding information, at this time we only need to follow the information prompts to troubleshoot the problem.

Just to remind everyone that the problem reporting and solution functions in the Windows Server 2008 system are completely anonymous, but if we do not actively report the failure of the server system to Microsoft, Then the server system will not automatically submit the fault information to Microsoft, and we will not get the answer from Microsoft's initiative to send us the problem, and Microsoft claims that the entire fault information reporting process will not involve any of the local server systems. Personal privacy information or other core settings information. We recommend that you consider the problem reporting and solution features of the system when you are experiencing a server failure that you cannot solve, because in many cases this feature can really solve some troublesome problems, especially by the server system itself. Software caused failure.
