Win10 Anniversary Upgrade Update New Issue: USB Camera Does Not Work Correctly

As we all know, the Windows 10th Anniversary Edition is the biggest upgrade in the year since the release of the operating system. This version adds a lot of new features, Microsoft should have attached great importance, but unfortunately, the system has caused various problems after its release.

Microsoft said it is addressing video encoding issues in the Windows 10 Anniversary upgrade. This problem has prevented many users from using the USB camera and the corresponding application. Many users report that their cameras and software are not working properly after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade.

Windows camera team engineer Mike · Mike Morante said the problem is due to Windows 10's way of adjusting the video stream of the USB camera. Windows 10 no longer allows software to access video streams in compressed formats such as MJPEG and H.264, but instead requires software to use uncompressed YUV and NV12 formats.

If the program calls MJPEG and H.264 video streams from a USB camera, the expected results will not be obtained.

Morrant said that after this adjustment, if multiple applications running on the PC use a single camera at the same time, system performance will be optimized. In the past, three applications needed to call H.264 video streams three times from a USB camera, but now only one YUV and NV12 video stream is called.

However, since many applications have not been adjusted accordingly, some problems have arisen. Morant said that Microsoft is developing separate solutions for MJPEG and H.264. The former solution will be released in September, and the latter has no clear timetable.
