DirectX 12 does not support Win7 and 8! Want to play, you need to buy a new graphics card

This morning, Microsoft revealed a lot of details about the next-generation operating system Windows 10, but for the players, one of the features that deserves attention is: DirectX 12. Microsoft said that games developed with the new DirectX 12 application programming interface will run faster and have more visual effects on the screen, with an overall performance improvement of around 50%.

DirectX 12 Is there really such a big improvement? In the middle of last year, Intel demonstrated and confirmed the dramatic improvements in performance of DirectX 12. At the time, Intel used Surface Pro 3 with Core i5 for demonstrations. When it comes to the integrated HD 4400 GPU, the difference between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 is highlighted. The results show that DirectX 12 has a 70% improvement in game performance compared to DirectX 11 with the same hardware.

And today Microsoft has basically confirmed this, and revealed that DirectX 12 has been provided to developers, and soon there will be DirectX 12 compatible games. However, it's important to note that DirectX 12 does not support older operating systems, Windows 7 or 8, and requires a new graphics card to get the most out of it.

DirectX 12 supports Windows 7 or 8

Microsoft confirmed after the conference that DirectX 12 will be an exclusive feature of Windows 10. This means that users of Windows 7 or 8 will not be able to get any of the new DirectX 12 features. However, considering that Windows 7 and 8 users can upgrade to a new generation of operating systems for free for 12 months after the official release of Windows 10, this is not a big problem for all players.

DirectX 12 does need to buy a new graphics card

Even so, Microsoft also stressed that to truly fully experience the performance improvements brought by DirectX 12, PC gamers will need to purchase new ones. Graphics card. While some existing hardware can also be driven by open new APIs, it's unclear how many graphics cards will actually be implemented.

Speaking back, at the press conference this morning, Microsoft simply talked about the improvements that DirectX 12 brings to the game, but more details about game developers/developers should not be until early March. It will be announced that Microsoft has confirmed that it will attend the Game Developers Conference 2015 Game Developers Conference.
