X86 architecture can save Microsoft Win10 Mobile mobile

Computer Store News: All along, the rumors that Windows Phone will support x86 architecture processors have not stopped. Now this rumor has become a reality on Win10 Mobile. One page of Microsoft Hardware Development Center shows that Windows 10 Mobile supports x86 architecture. The processor, this news was also confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson.

As an ally in the PC market, Microsoft and Intel are not doing well in the mobile space. There are only a handful of mobile phones on the market that are handled by Intel, and Windows Phone can also be said to be sluggish. So, if Windows 10 Mobile is supported by Intel x86 architecture processors, will the Microsoft mobile ecosystem recover?

In the past, whether Samsung or Huawei, the Windows Phone phones launched by these vendors are equipped with Qualcomm processors, and the Lumia brand that was included in Microsoft's acquisition with Nokia's acquisition is also true. The market share of Windows Phone phones has been so low. The most critical issue is that the ecology has not developed. Whether it is the quantity or quality of applications, Windows Phone has a big gap with other platforms.

With the support of x86 architecture processors, this situation may change.

Imagine if the phone can run Win32 applications, the number and quality of applications can be greatly alleviated. What's more, according to the current development trend of smart phone hardware, we don't have to worry about the lack of performance. Compared with ARM architecture processors, x86 architecture processors have a natural advantage in PC platforms, and this advantage is also reflected in Windows 10 Mobile.

In Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft's Continuum feature allows users to connect their phones to keyboards and monitors via the Display Dock and use them as desktop PCs. If the user only needs to send and receive emails, surf the Internet, edit Word documents, and perform PPT presentations, the mobile phone can completely replace the PC to achieve these operations. If Win32 can be used in conjunction with the Continuum feature, the productivity experience will be improved.

At present, Microsoft has not clearly stated whether it plans to launch the Windows 10 Mobile mobile phone with x86 architecture processor. However, there have been rumors that Microsoft will launch the so-called Surface Phone under the Surface brand. This Surface Phone may be equipped with an Intel x86 architecture processor and may even support Win32 programs.

But this is bound to make Microsoft face a new round of challenges.

The first is the mobile phone life of Windows 10 Mobile. The power consumption of the mobile phone processor cannot be ignored. If this problem is not solved, the actual use effect of the mobile phone will be greatly reduced. If Microsoft wants to launch a mobile phone with an x86-based processor, perhaps the Atom X series that Intel released in 2015 will be the first choice. This series is not only powerful, but the architecture upgrade will also give better control of power consumption.

Secondly, all aspects of Windows 10 Mobile still need to be improved. So far, Microsoft has not announced the official push time of Windows 10 Mobile, and the Win10 update codenamed Redstone is expected to arrive at the end of July this year. For those who have previously stayed on the Windows Phone platform and are now experiencing the Windows 10 Mobile preview, this is still a long wait.
