30% faster than Win7 Win10's mission this year is it

Computer Store News: Microsoft released the Windows 10 system. This system combines the familiar Windows 7 interface with the new technology of Windows 8.

Windows 10 is very different from previous versions of Windows. In the golden age of PCs, users will queue up for a copy of Windows 95 at night. For Windows 10, the first day of the system officially released, there are not many new PCs equipped with this system, and the store shelves are not full of new system CDs. The primary way for users to get Windows 10 is to download for free and then upgrade existing computers.

This means that Microsoft will bear the cost at its own expense and lose the opportunity to build momentum. But this also shows that Microsoft plans to turn the Windows system from software into a service.

Over the years, Microsoft has hoped to integrate operating systems for PCs, mobile phones and tablets, and Windows 10 has finally achieved this goal. Competitors such as Apple and Google have not yet done so.

Windows 10 apps can run on both desktop and mobile devices, as well as Xbox and HoloLens reality enhancements. With the appropriate adapter, after plugging in the keyboard, mouse and monitor, the phone running Windows 10 can be transformed into the most basic computer.

So, the biggest question about Windows 10 in 2016 is whether more people care about it.

The penetration rate so far

Microsoft has not released the current user data for Windows 10. The company said in early October that more than 110 million PCs had run the system, but no new news was released.

Third-party data may be clearer. According to Net Market Share, PCs running Windows 10 account for about 9% of desktop Internet usage. (Windows accounts for 91% of the total.)

On the mobile side, the situation is not very good. Although the Windows platform has a 3% share of the smartphone market, only 0.09% of mobile phones run Windows 10 systems. This means that Microsoft still has a lot of work to do in the process of promoting the development of Windows 10 smartphones.

In order to implement Windows 10's commitment to becoming a service, Microsoft has released the first update for Windows 10, and more updates are expected to be released in 2016. However, Microsoft declined to say what the updates will contain.

What Microsoft needs to do next

Developers are very concerned about data. The market share of mobile operating systems is the key to determining which platforms their applications support. For this reason, Microsoft has set a goal of installing Windows 10 to 1 billion devices in the next three years. Even developers who are least optimistic about Windows 10 can't ignore so many users.

To achieve this goal, Microsoft has adopted a free strategy for Windows 10. For individual users of Windows 7 and Windows 8, Windows 10 upgrades are free, but enterprise users still have to pay.

In addition to driving the growth in the number of users, there are many other things that Windows 10 needs to do.

Microsoft needs to find a complete payment solution. The company has established a mechanism for app sales, but mobile devices now need to assist with in-store and online payments.

Windows Phone 8 includes a basic wallet application, but this version of the system has not achieved much development. At the same time, although Apple, Google and Samsung have launched autonomous mobile payment applications, Windows 10 has not had much action in this regard.

Microsoft has promised to provide developers with all the necessary tools to port their current applications to the Windows 10 platform, but Microsoft's commitment is only partially completed. Tools for iPhone developers are still being tested, and a tool for Android developers seems to disappear.

Although Windows 10 can support older PCs, this is not the case on the mobile side. Microsoft initially planned to achieve this by the end of December, but the current plan has been postponed until next year.

The good news for Microsoft is that Windows 10 is designed to support regular upgrades. Microsoft has proven that the company has the ability to provide upgrades, and participants in the Windows Insider project can help the company test before the upgrade is officially released.

However, Microsoft does not currently have an advantage. If Windows 10 wants to gain a foothold in the competition, then Microsoft needs to address the challenges.
