Microsoft has no plans to launch Edge browser for other platforms

Computer Store News: As we all know, Microsoft is building a new Edge browser for Win10, which is designed to replace IE as Win10's default browser. The Edge browser's rendering engine is based on Trident but removes all old code and has been heavily modified for the latest web environment. Edge has been adding new and old features, but some features will not come at the time of release, and features such as extensions will not appear at the time of official release.

After the Build2015 conference, Microsoft will also launch a Build Tour global tour. In yesterday's UK tour, some users asked Microsoft if they wanted the Edge browser to introduce other platforms. Michael Gillett, Microsoft's UK district MVP, also responded by saying that they are currently building Edge for Win10, but they will consider the issue of Edge's presence on other platforms in the future.

This question does have some value, because Microsoft is now building software for all major mobile platforms. Microsoft's signature apps, such as Office, Skype, and Outlook, have fully covered iOS, WP, and Android.

However, there is still a big obstacle to the Edge browser landing on the iOS platform, because Apple has strict policies on its device browser. If Microsoft considers launching the Edge browser for iOS devices, it must use the WebKit engine instead of Trident. engine.

Microsoft is currently working closely with Edge for Windows 10, so there is no reason to transfer R&D resources for other non-critical platforms.
