Win7 is not exclusive, AMD Mantle also supports Linux platform

Computer Store News: Recently, AMD is building the Mantle low-level API for GCN architecture APU/GPU, which will eventually bring Direct3D and OpenGL full acceleration experience. In addition to supporting the traditional Win7, Win8, Win8.1 platforms, AMD also plans to bring Mantle technology to open source platforms, such as Linux, Steam OS gaming platform.

As of now, AMD's Mantle technology is still dominated by PCs. For example, EA's latest "Frost 3" and Crytek's CRYENGINE engine are internally integrated with Mantle support for a better gaming experience. But now, AMD is working hard to make Mantle a cross-platform, open source tool.

A few days ago, AMD's official blog talked about the relationship between Linux and Mantle, but did not disclose whether it would be integrated. Now, AMD gaming expert Richard Huddy confirms that Linux is one of AMD's strategic goals, but there is no clear timeline.

In an exclusive interview with PCworld.com, Richard Huddy said that at least 50 games developed and under development will use the Mantle tool. These games not only support the Windows platform, but some will also support the Linux platform.

Finally, Huddy added: "AMD has also received a lot of advice from game developers, hoping to migrate Mantlle tools to the Linux platform. Now, AMD is working on the job, but there is no clear timeline, so it's hard to know when the game based on the Mantle game engine supports the Linux platform. ”
