Windows 2000 Optimization

Win 2000 optimization is very similar to Win 9x/me in many respects, including some optimization software can share, so you can learn from Win 9x/me optimization and optimization software. Of course, in addition to this, Win 2000 has some unique optimization measures.

First, choose the appropriate file system

Before installing Win 2000, you must first decide which file system to choose. Improper selection of the file system will result in Win 2000 not being optimized during the running process.

The NTFS file system is the file system recommended by Win 2000. NTFS has all the basic functions of the FAT file system and has the advantages that FAT or FAT32 does not have: higher file security, better disk compression performance and larger supported hard disk capacity. NTFS supports large hard disks up to 2TB, which is much larger than FAT, and as disk capacity increases, NTFS performance does not decrease as FAT (the following table is a table of disk file partitions and cluster sizes for various file systems). Therefore, if you only install Win 2000, it is recommended to convert the existing partition to NTFS during the installation process, or convert the file system from FAT to NTFS through the Convert.exe program after installation.

Second, optimize system execution efficiency

Open “Control Panel”→“System&rdquo ;, appears in the "System Features" window, select the "Advanced" tag item, and then click the "Performance Options" button, the window appears. There are two options in the "Application Response" area: "Application” & “Background Services”. Here, specify how the foreground program and the background program share CPU processing time. If you select “Applications, the operating system will allocate more CPU processing time to the foreground program, otherwise the system will not allocate the same CPU processing time for each running process regardless of the difference between the foreground and the background. In general, our average user can get more CPU processing time for the foreground program being operated, and only process the background program when the CPU is idle. For the server, you should choose “Background Service”.

Third, close & ldquo; log & rdquo; function

Although Win 2000 has excellent stability, it is always inevitable. When a serious error occurs in the system, Win 2000 records the error message to help the technician to judge and solve the problem. It doesn't work very well for our average users. In addition, when the system goes wrong, there will be a violent read phenomenon, so we need to turn it off.

Open “Control Panel”→“System”, "System Features" window, select “Advanced" tab item, then click “Startup and Recovery" button , cancel the three check boxes of the middle circle, you can save about 60K of memory.

In addition, Win 2000 also records the error of the application through the “Medical Doctor”, we can also disable this function: Run “ldwtsn32.exe”, cancel in the “Options” area In addition to all the checkboxes except "visual notifications", this prevents “Watson doctors” from generating spoiled .dmp log files and quickly shutting down when a program error occurs.

Fourth, delete the log file

Although we have turned off the Win 2000 log function, but the log file generated by Win 2000 is also stored in a certain location on the hard disk, so we should try Delete them. Open “Control Panel”→“Administrative Tools”→“Event Viewer" How many log files are there? Run the “Clear All Events” command in the “Operation” menu, and a warning box appears: ask if you want to save the log file, of course, select “No”. In addition, delete all log files generated by "Wahson Doctor> in the C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsDrWatson directory.

V. Uninstalling Unusable Components

When installing Windows 2000, the installer does not let us choose the components that need to be installed, and “unauthorized” arbitrarily merges some unnecessary programs. In the system, waste limited hard disk space, but in the control panel "Add /Remove Programs", but they are not traced, if you directly delete the folder where the program will leave a large number in the registry Spam. In fact, you can use the following methods to uninstall them.

Find this file, Winntinfsysoc.inf” this file, in the default case they are hidden property files (folders), so you have to make them appear first: select “ in the file manager Tools & rdquo; → & ldquo; folder options & rdquo; & rarquo; & ldquo; view & rdquo;, select “ show hidden files or folders & rdquo; items can find and open the sysoc.inf file.

After the file is opened, look for “; old base components"; change Games=ocgen.dll, OcEntry, games.inf, HIDE, 7 to Games=ocgen.dll, OcEntry, games.inf, 7, according to this method, delete all the fields below, "HIDE", and save the modified results.

Now you can go to “Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel>, you can uninstall “games>, accessory tools”,“writing board”, “ Multimedia & rdquo; and other components, and. However, this method cannot uninstall components such as "OE", "OE", "Fax", "Image Processing". ,

As for other optimization measures, you can refer to the optimization scheme of Windows 98/me. Finally, I would like to remind everyone that you should not log in as Administrator in your daily work, because in Win 2000, Administrator has the most Complete and thorough control ability, the defense ability of the whole system is the weakest in this state, not only the damage caused by misoperation to the system is relatively large, but also the possibility of formatting the hard disk and deleting files for the virus (trojan) . So, for the sake of safety, build a regular user!
