Comparison of two terminal protocols of Win2000 server

Foreword:

WIN2000 server has two kinds of terminal protocols, one is the system's own RDP protocol, the other is the third-party protocol, the American CTRIX company's ICA protocol. The author first uses the RDP protocol to implement the terminal functions of the Win2000 server under some low-end 586 microcomputers and WIN95 (98) platforms. Later, through the use of Win2000 terminal card, the use of ICA protocol was gradually understood and mastered. Under the conditions of Dos, Win95 (98) platform and 386, 486, 586 microcomputer, the terminal mode of Win2000 server was realized. The following two versions compare the two protocols.

First, the terminal implementation

1, RDP protocol can only be used under WIN3.1, WIN95 (98) platform.

The Win2000 server comes with the terminal protocol RDP protocol, which can only be used under the WIN3.1, WIN95, and 98 platforms. The terminal mode is implemented by installing the terminal service client software. The Chinese version of the WIN2000 server operating system only provides the terminal service client software under the WIN95 (98) platform. The English WIN2000 server operating system provides two terminal service client softwares under Win3.1 and Win95 (98).

2, ICA protocol can be used under DOS, WIN3.1, WIN95 (98), can also be used under other operating systems.

The ICA protocol provides 10 kinds of terminal client software, including ICA16, ICA32, ICADOS, ICADOS32, ICAEDIT, ICAJAVA, ICAMAC, ICAUNIX, ICADEB, ICAWINCE, all of which are covered, and are used under several commonly used operating systems. The terminal mode can be realized, and it can be seen that CTRIX has a solid foundation in the field of terminal software. The ICA protocol is valuable in that, in addition to the Windows platform, it also provides terminal client software under other platforms, which provides users with great flexibility.

We use four ICAICA software, ICA16 for WIN3.1, ICA32 for WIN95 (98), ICADOS and ICADOS32 for DOS. The ICA16 and ICA32 client software are equivalent to the RDP protocol terminal service client software, which is useless. The ICADOS and ICSDOS32 terminal client software provide conditions for the 286 and 386 microcomputers to use WINDOWS large-scale application software under the DOS platform, which is unmatched by the RDP protocol.

In DOS platform, use floppy disk or hard disk, first log in to win2000 server through network client software (NET), and then run ICADOS, ICADOS32 through one of floppy disk mode, hard disk mode and virtual memory mode. The terminal client software implements the terminal mode and can run large software on the WIN2000 server, such as OFFICE 2000, WPS OFFOICE, PHOTOSHOP, VB, VF, VC, and so on.

The floppy disk method is mainly applicable to the case where the microcomputer hard disk is broken.

The hard disk mode is mainly applicable to the case where the microcomputer hard disk is normal.

The virtual memory mode is mainly used to avoid installing ICADOS and ICADOS32 terminal client software on the PC soft and hard disk, and install it on the win2000 server, and use the network client software (net) on the floppy disk or hard disk. After logging in to the server, copy the terminal client software from the server to the local memory virtual disk and run it. Some win2000 terminal cards use this principle.

This method is mainly applicable to 286 and 386 microcomputers that cannot install WINDOWS 95 (98) operating system, which can be revived and reused. 286, 386 microcomputers are adopted for primary, secondary and enterprise units. The established computer classroom is especially valuable.

Second, the drive mapping

1, RDP terminal client software can not achieve drive mapping.

The RDP terminal client software cannot map the floppy disk and hard disk of the computer to the WIN2000 server. The work result on the server can only be stored on the server, which brings difficulties for the terminal user to manage the file.

2, ICA terminal client software can achieve drive mapping.

The ICA terminal client software can map the floppy disk and hard disk of the computer to the WIN2000 server. The working result on the server can be stored on the soft and hard disk of the machine, and the terminal user management file is brought. Very convenient. Figure 1.

Third, the display color number

1, RDP terminal client software can not achieve true color display.

After the terminal mode is implemented by the RDP terminal client software, the number of screen display colors can only be 256 colors, which makes it difficult for applications involving graphics and images, and terminal usage is limited.

2, ICA terminal client software can achieve true color display.

After implementing the terminal mode through the ICA terminal client software, the number of screen display colors can achieve true color, which provides conditions for applications involving graphics, making the use of the terminal unrestricted and expanding the range of terminal usage. . Fourth, the terminal connection method

1, RDP terminal client software only provides a connection method.

The RDP terminal client software only provides a connection method, local area network mode, and cannot provide a remote connection method through a telephone connection, which brings inconvenience to remote users.

2, ICA terminal client software can achieve a variety of connection methods.

The ICA terminal client software provides four connection methods: local area network, wide area network, dial-up networking (ppp/ras), and ica dial-in. (Figure 3)

Through the remote terminal mode, you can run the software on the win2000 server, process the data, and only transmit the changed server screen display. The remote user avoids transferring the data back to the machine through the telephone line. Processing is a valuable way to query remote data.

The above-mentioned agencies (railway bureaus and railway sub-bureaus) query the data of the locomotive segment (black box) as an example. Each locomotive segment has a few megabytes of data per day, and more than a dozen megabytes. It is not realistic for the higher authorities to retrieve such data from the remote device for processing and analysis.

The current method is that the higher-level authority logs in the servers of each locomotive station in the tube, retrieves a small amount of data from the machine for processing, and then analyzes the wind pressure, speed, and signal during the locomotive operation. In terms of the data of the carrier, only the spot check function can be implemented.

In fact, the locomotive segment server uses the automatic processing method of the carrier data, and the original carrier data is automatically processed after being stored in the server. If the server server uses win2000 server, install the carrier data analysis software on the server, the superior authority uses win2000 remote terminal mode to log in to each locomotive segment server, and directly run the carrier analysis software on the server, which can analyze the locomotive operation conveniently and quickly. The wind pressure, speed and signal curve can save the number and processing links, and can realize the overall analysis of the data of the carrier, which is much better than the management effect of the spot check.

V. Conclusion

1. The Win2000 server comes with the RDP terminal protocol, which can only be used under the win3.1 and WIN95 (98) systems. The terminal implementation mode is single, and the drive cannot be mapped. The realization of true color, the realization of remote terminals, the use of certain restrictions.

However, the agreement is self-contained by the system and is convenient to use, which can save software purchase fees.

2, American CTRIX company's ICA protocol, can be used under a variety of operating systems, and can map drivers, achieve true color, achieve remote terminals, is an excellent terminal protocol, has a huge application in China potential. However, the terminal software of the agreement is expensive, difficult to accept, and its application is greatly limited.

If CTRIX can protect the copyright, the price of the ICA terminal software will be acceptable to domestic users, and its market prospects are quite optimistic.
