Windows Vista SP1 RC version installation process

Just when everyone is focusing on the upcoming Windows
7 RC version, the Vista
that once made us happy to worry us, finally ushered in it. The second large patch package - SP2 RC version. Generally, as a pre-release RC version. If there are no major problems, it will not be adjusted too much for its function or performance. In other words, we can completely understand this guy as a microcosm of the official version of Vista
SP2. Therefore, in order to let everyone understand this version more intuitively, we have specially downloaded this version of the service pack, and in the first time, share the trial experience with everyone. Note: The system used in this article is Windows
Vista
SP1. I. Summary of the patch package The patch package for this release, a total of 1.60 GB, includes three versions of "IA64", "X64" and "X86". Among them, the X86 version has a single capacity of 459 MB. In addition, there is a self-installing program in the installation package. After double-clicking, it can automatically identify the system and select the appropriate version. When we looked at the digital signature of the installation file, it was discovered on February 2, 2009. Obviously, it has been released for some time.

Figure 2 Digital signature It is commendable that this release of the patch package can be directly applied to most Vista
versions including Simplified Chinese. Therefore, you can install directly without any adjustments to the system.
Second, start to install Nonsense said a basket, the following is still to start today's experience. After the installation starts, a welcome screen will appear first, briefly describing the version to be installed and the options to be noted. After clicking "Next", the second interface will continue to pop up. Here, it is strongly recommended that you check the "Automatically restart your computer" item. Otherwise, you can sit in front of your computer in a step-by-step manner.

Figure 4 It is strongly recommended to check "Automatic Restart". Compared with the previous SP1, Vista
SP2 is more user-friendly on the installation program. Each step of the installation process will be detailed on the interface. After about 12 minutes, the system starts to restart and continues to start configuration and installation under the startup interface.

SP1, but a lot stronger!
Figure 7 is finally finished! Excited ...... Third, speed and space occupied After the installation, we deliberately compared the disk space changes before and after installation. It can be seen that after installing the SP2 RC version, the partition where the system is located has been expanded from the original 11.7 GB to the current 12.4 GB, an increase of about 700 MB. And this value is also much less than the last SP1 upgrade.
Figure 8 installation space comparison In addition, in this patch package, Microsoft also deliberately attached a service pack cleanup tool called "Service Pack Clean-up". The old version files that come with RTM and SP1 can be permanently deleted. Moreover, its use is also very simple, just open the start menu, enter "compcln" and press Enter. At this point, the cleanup tool will launch through a command prompt window. After pressing the "Y" key on the keyboard, the cleanup starts. After a total of about a minute or two, the entire cleanup was completed. At this time, I went to check my computer and found that it saved 400 MB of disk space.

Figure 10 cleaning effect Fourth, simple experience Although, whether it is installation time, or disk usage, the new SP2 RC is better than the previous SP1. But the intuitive changes left to us are not many. In addition to the system properties and the version number of the individual software, there are changes. It is really difficult for us to see too many SP2 improvements from the user's point of view. Below, there are screenshots of some common software modules.
Figure 11 The version number of the system property changes
Figure 12 IE version has a little change! It is said that SP2 upgrades the RSS Gadget in the system sidebar to improve performance and responsiveness. However, from our actual test, no obvious changes have been found in the interface or in actual use. Even the RSS Gadget version numbers of the two systems are exactly the same, which is quite confusing.
Figure 13 RSS Gadget version number in the sidebar Similarly, Media Center is also a project that appears on the Microsoft Updates list, but we are not here, and noticeable changes. In addition, like the RSS Gadget, the version number of Media Center has not changed!
Figure 14 Media Center also found no significant difference After the upgrade, Windows
Media Player 11 version number has improved, but also did not leave us a significant improvement. At the same time, the author also tested the format support ability of the new WMP, and still found no changes.

20 DVD Maker! It is said that Blu-ray is supported, but I can't try it. <21> Figure 21 Windows
There is no change in the calendar. 5. I found out that I remember a classic "Vista
View" bug in the old version. Good view styles can't be saved by Vista
, and I tried it. Initially, after installing SP2, it seems that there is no problem. But since the entire patch was in the hands of the author, it was less than two days. Therefore, it is not good to draw this conclusion now. I think, leave it to everyone to try it.
Figure 22 "Vista
View" Bug seems to have been solved. Written in the end Compared to the previous Vista
SP1, this time, SP2 brought us, I am afraid more or some hidden improvements. As for the performance, because the author did not conduct specific tests, it is not very good at present. But with the intuitive feeling, it has not been found to have significant changes with the old version of SP1. At the same time, the startup speed did not feel improved. However, from the official introduction, the new SP2 has improved in terms of support for some new devices such as Blu-ray. Considering that there are still many unknowns in Windows
7 yet, you may wish to pay more attention to this upcoming Vista
SP2.
