Vista series skills: pop-up window and shutdown optimization

For the speed improvement of Windows XP operating system, many of us are already very familiar with it, then the optimization for Windows Vista system must be understood by many people. Here are two optimization techniques for Vista.

1. Speed up window pop-up

Windows Vista uses animated effects when opening windows, which affects the speed of opening windows. For users with smaller memory, the improvement method is Turn off the animation.

Press Win+R to open the “Run” window and enter “Regedit” to run the registry, find the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Control PanelDesktop\\Window Metrics” branch, and find the MinAniMate key in the right window. , change its value from 1 to 0 to turn off the animation display.

2, shorten the shutdown waiting time

Shorten the waiting time before shutting down the service

After Windows Vista executes the shutdown command, it will shut down the services still running on the computer. If a program does not stop running within the system default time, the system will force a stop operation. Before we shut down the computer, we are ready to quit, and waiting here is a waste of time.

Open the Registry Editor, find the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\Current\\ControlSetControl" branch, find the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" key in the right window, double-click to modify it, and change its value from the default 20000 (in milliseconds) is adjusted to a smaller value, such as 5000 or even 1000. So, if Windows Vista does not receive the service shutdown signal within 5 seconds (5000) or 1 second (1000) of the setting, the system will A warning window pops up informing the user that the service cannot be aborted and gives the option to force abort or wait for the user to wait.

Tip: WaitToKillServiceTimeout is to give a buffer time to end the service, so that the programs in the execution have enough time to write the data in the Cache before the system is closed. If you do not keep enough buffer time, the data will be lost, so it is recommended that you develop a good habit of saving files at any time.

Shorten the wait time before closing applications and processes

Similar to the wait time before shutting down the service, Windows Vista waits for the program or process itself before forcibly closing the application and process. The time of the shutdown, only after the time limit is exceeded, the Windows system will force it to abort.

Therefore, shortening the default closing of the application or waiting time can also speed up the shutdown of Windows Vista.

Open the registry editor, find the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\Current\\ControlSetControl" branch, and find the registry key of "HungAppTimeout" in the window on the right. This item corresponds to the system forcibly closing the user. Waiting time if the object does not respond after a process or application. The default value is “5000”, which can be changed to “1000”.

Note: However, even if we set the value of "HungAppTimeout" to a small value, it does not mean that Windows Vista will automatically suspend the program or process after the waiting time exceeds the time limit, and will still pop up. The dialog box lets the user confirm whether to abort. If you feel that this method is too cumbersome, you can modify the registry key to let Windows Vista automatically interrupt the process after the waiting time limit.
