Vista installation detailed process (illustration)

                  ◆Foreword
Windows Vista (Codename Longhorn), I am afraid that the big uncle is afraid that the name "longhorn" will make Microsoft's next-generation system continue to be difficult to produce, so I changed the name of the good point, but the server version of VISTA still Called Longhorn. A joke, but it is indeed the most difficult system in history. From 2002 to the present, the official release date has been delayed. Today, Microsoft has finally released the Beta 2 version of Windows Vista. Below I will use the latest CTP5456.5 version as an example to tell you about the installation method of VISTA.
First of all, let's talk about Vista's requirements for the system. Compared with the previous Microsoft client system, it is quite awkward. For example, it requires 512MB of memory. To experience the gorgeous interface of Vista, you need a high-end graphics card and so on. At least the younger brother's computer configuration can be used (P4 630 3.0G, 1024MB memory, MSI 6600GT graphics card) PS: Let's talk about the even virtual machine settings, because some of the installed brothers have to install the best screenshots on the virtual machine The virtual machine is Virtual Server 2005 R2 (software performance is good, but the customization is less) 512MB virtual memory, 16G virtual active hard disk, but even a computer with only 256MB memory should be able to run, of course, at the expense of many special effects. , new features, and more. Not much nonsense, go to the topic, install...
◆Preparation before installation

If you obtained the image file of the Windows Vista installation CD by downloading, you need to first Burn it to a disc. This requires you to have a DVD burner and the corresponding burning software.
Be careful when burning. Because of the volume of the file, you can't burn it to CD. You must use a DVD disc, which requires you to have a DVD burner. At the same time, because this is a beta version of the software, in order not to waste the disc, it is recommended that you burn the file to a rewritable DVD±RW or DVD-RAM disc.
You can't use the Windows XP operating system's own burning function, because this function can only burn files on the hard disk to a disc, and you can't burn the image file as "mirror". For example, the Nero Burning ROM 7 Simplified Chinese version, you need to select the "burn image file" command under Nero's "burner" menu, then select the downloaded .iso file to start burning.
If you don't have a DVD burner, you can also use the virtual drive software to load the image file. It is recommended to use the free Daemon Tools.
Assuming you have a burned DVD or a ready-made Windows Vista installation CD, please restart your computer and go to the BIOS setup screen (the usual method is to press the computer during self-test) The Del key on the lower keyboard, of course, some models of computers may be different, please refer to the computer or motherboard manual for details. In the BIOS setup interface, make sure that the CD-ROM drive is the first boot device, then exit the BIOS setup interface, the CD-ROM starts booting the computer, and we continue to install.
◆Installation

Windows Vista 5600 (RC1) provides three installation methods:
1, boot installation with the installation CD;
2, from the existing operating system New installation;
3, upgrade from the existing operating system installation.
The following is an example of "Installing the installation with the installation CD" as an example to introduce the installation process of Windows Vista. The other two methods and this method are similar, so it is not detailed here! (This installation is based on the installation of Windows Vista 5600 (RC1) CHS.)
1. If you already have a burned DVD, or have a ready-made Windows Vista installation CD, please restart you. The computer, and enter the BIOS settings interface (the usual method is to press the Del key on the keyboard during the computer self-test, of course, some models of computers may be different, please refer to the computer or motherboard instructions for details). In the BIOS setup interface, make sure that the CD-ROM drive is the first boot device, then exit the BIOS setup interface, the CD-ROM starts booting the computer, and we continue to install.

2, the installation program is started, load boot.wim, start the PE environment, wait a moment, this time you can count the sheep to play...

3, the installation program starts, select the type of language you want to install, and at the same time choose the time and currency display type and keyboard and input method that suits you.
4, click "Install Now", start to install

5, halo... and we want to continue counting sheep... then count it...

6, enter the "product key", license agreement, nonsense of course accepted. Of course, you can also enter the "product key" here, and click on the next step, then a warning will appear, click "No". Then select the version of the key you have in the list that appears, and hit the checkbox below.

7, select the installation type, upgrade or customize (recommended), However, the premise of the upgrade is that the remaining space of your C drive is greater than 11G (the default XP is on the C drive) and the XP and VISTA languages must be the same. Of course, if you choose to "boot the installation with the installation CD", your upgrade is not available.
8, the following can be set up the installation partition. If you install Windows Vista, you need a clean large-capacity partition, otherwise the partition capacity will become very tight after installation. It is important to note that Windows Vista can only be installed under NTFS format partitions, and the remaining space of the partition must be greater than 8G. If you use some of the less common storage subsystems, such as SCSI, RAID, or special SATA hard drives, the installer does not recognize your hard drive, then you need to provide the drivers here. Click the "Load Driver" icon and follow the on-screen prompts to provide the driver to continue. Of course, after installing the driver, you may also need to click the "Refresh" button to have the installer search for the hard drive again. If your hard drive is brand new and hasn't been used yet, there are no partitions and data on the hard drive, so you'll need to create a partition on your hard drive. At this point you can click the "Drive Options (Advanced)" button to create a new partition or delete an existing partition (if it is an old hard drive).

In "Drive Options (Advanced)" you can easily perform disk operations such as deleting, creating new partitions, formatting partitions, expanding partitions, etc. It can be said that the Windows Vista installer is We provide a more powerful disk operating platform.

9. At this point, all the information required during the installation process has been collected, and the installation program will automatically complete the remaining operations. Next, Windows Vista will start copying the installation files and configuring the system settings, with 2 restarts between them. Do something else during this time, wait for about half an hour, depending on the computer configuration (it's really slow, it's better to continue counting sheep, or brew a coffee ==), after you come back, you will You will find that Windows Vista has been invited to your computer... Appreciate the screenshot of the installation process.
Copy the Windows file and copy the files needed for the installation to the hard disk (this is very fast when booting from the boot CD) , then load the installation file install.wim, release the file to install the system driver (but from the boot CD, this speed is slow...^_^)

Continue to release the file, install Function completion (unlike the new installation under XP, this step does not need to be restarted)

Installing the update and entering the "Installation Complete" stage

Entering the first reboot phase of the installation

Getting started for the first time

Starting Windows Vista, it’s weird, in the CHS version, This is garbled, but there is no problem in the EN version

Enter the "Complete Installation" stage
10 After installation, restart your computer, you will find that Windows Vista includes a new boot manager. Selecting the first item will bring up the old-fashioned boot menu that we are familiar with, which is used to select other operating systems, and press F8 to enter safe mode.
Windows Vista splash screen, interesting is that there is nothing else except a scroll bar (or you can call the static splash screen via the msconfig command after VISTA starts)

11 After rebooting, enter the Windows Vista setup phase, enter your username, password, and select your favorite avatar

12, then enter the computer name and select the desktop background

13. Choose the way to help protect Windows automatically: The first item, use recommended settings, including keeping Windows updated, helping MS to make IE browser more secure, reporting problems to MS; second item, only Install important updates for Windows; ask me later, but it may make Windows dangerous. Here is still recommended to choose the first item, the next step...

14, review time and time settings

15, complete the settings, ready to start , HOHO, after more than half an hour of suffering, you can finally enjoy our Windows Vista tour, click "Start" to enter Windows Vista...

16, but in our experience Before the Windows Vista tour, there is an important process to detect system performance. At the same time, Windows Vista will show you an introduction to the new experience of Windows Vista.
