Windows Live Mesh History: Birth in April 2008 (2)

Unexpected Discovery: Windows Live Devices

As early as August 2009, we noticed the new Windows Live Devices service, which, as its name suggests, is the Windows Live Device Management Center. However, this also reminds us of Live Mesh's device page and guessed what will happen next.

Windows Live Sync New

Although the Windows Live Sync product name released by Microsoft in June 2010 is still called Sync, its technology is completely based on Live Mesh. : The new version of Sync can coexist with the old version of Sync and will automatically uninstall Live Mesh at install time.

In terms of online storage, the new version of Sync Beta was released only 2 GB, completely isolated from SkyDrive's 25 GB, which really made Live Mesh users feel uncomfortable or even dissatisfied. (Although based on Live Mesh, Microsoft does not offer a migration plan from Live Mesh to new Sync).

Sync Rename: Windows Live Mesh

At the end of August, Microsoft made two major decisions: 1 to rename Windows Live Sync to Windows Live Mesh, 2 to bring Windows Live Mesh online Increase storage to 5GB. Wikikou.fr has already acquired a new version of the Windows Live Mesh client. From the screenshots, Microsoft has started using the Windows Live Devices name in the Windows Live Mesh client.

It can be said that the history of Windows Live Mesh, which is the history of Microsoft's personal file synchronization products, is a good trend for Microsoft to unify the products and technologies. It may not be long before Windows Live Mesh will fully integrate 25GB SkyDrive cloud storage, Office Web Apps, paid expansion plans, and more devices.
