Create Windows 98 Fully Automatic Clone Installation Disk

It is necessary to tell everyone that the fully automatic cloning system installation CD that we want to make has been built into the drive at the time of production, so the stand-alone user can use the restore method, while the computer room users can use the batch installation method. To achieve fast installation of multiple machines.

Make an image file

First download the “Ghost2003 boot disk” from the major download sites, unzip it, put a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive, double-click “G2003.exe” ; file, the program will automatically format and write the inserted floppy disk.

Boot the system with the created Ghost boot disk, select the first item after entering the menu mode (ie load the CD item) and press the Enter key to continue. After entering the Chinese menu interface, select "<;GHOST2003 Chinese Wizard & Rarr; GHOST2003 Backup Wizard & Rarr; Backup 1st Hard Disk 1st Division".

Because the Windows 98 system partition image file is only 100 megabytes, click on the default state (ie, no volume) in the next step, click “OK in the confirmation dialog box that appears next. The button continues. Then you need to set the location of the image file to be created. Click to select a non-system partition (such as F disk) with enough space. In the next step, you need to set the image file name (such as Win98.GHO), as shown in Figure 1. , then click the “OK” button to continue.

Then you need to set the compression level needed to make the image file, click to select “ fast compression & rdquo; in the next step & ldquo;Ready & rdquo ; Click the “OK” button in the prompt box to continue. The interface for creating the image file will appear later. After the progress bar is scrolled, a prompt box prompting the creation will appear. Click the “Restart” button to end the production of the image file.

Creating a boot floppy disk

Since the upcoming CD-ROM is self-starting, this "self-starting" function needs to be implemented by a Windows 98 boot floppy disk, so we In Windows 98, click "Start → Settings & Rarr; Control Panel & Rarr; Add /Remove Programs", switch to the "Startup Disk" tab, and create a boot floppy disk according to the prompts. Because this floppy disk is also required to load the image file to automatically run the file "duty", so you need to make some manual modifications to the contents of this floppy disk.

1 Delete the EBD.CAB file on the boot floppy disk;

2Himem.sys, Smartdrv.exe in the Windows 98 installation directory (assumed C:Windows) directory, “C :Windowscommand” directory Mscdex.exe, Format.com four files are copied to the root directory of the boot floppy disk;

3 Open the Config.sys file of the boot floppy disk with Notepad, delete the original content, enter the following Statement:

device=himem.sys

device=oakcdrom.sys /d:mscd001

lastdrive=z

Click on the “ file after typing →Save” command to save the file.

4Open the Autoexec.bat file on the floppy disk with Notepad, delete the original content, and enter the following statement:

z:

ghost -clone,mode=pload,src=z:win98.

gho:1 , dst=1:1 -sure

After the input is completed, click the “File → Save” command to save the file.

Burning a disc

After the above settings, you can start burning your disc. After putting the modified Windows 98 boot floppy disk into the floppy drive, run the “Nero Burning Rom” burning software and select “CD-ROM (bootable)” in the new “New Edit” window that appears, and select it. “Start” under the tab "Open Advanced Settings (for advanced users only)" option, the rest of the default values ​​can be selected, as shown in Figure 2.

After setting, click the “New” button, after the Nero main interface window appears, in the “File Browser” window Drag the Win98.gho file and the Ghost.exe file to the root directory of the CD, and then add some useful tools to the CD-ROM, such as Diskgen, Winrar, FinalData, Driver Recovery Wizard, and commonly used Hardware drivers, etc.

Applying actual combat

Just put this CD into the CD-ROM drive and choose to boot the computer with the CD-ROM drive. At this time, the CD-ROM will automatically install the whole system in a few minutes in a cloned and restored way. Very convenient and practical! As shown in Figure 3, Ghost has automatically found the Win98.gho file located in the root directory of the Z drive, and immediately starts the system's restore installation.
