Using DameWare NT to remotely manage Windows XP SP2

Unlocking the trouble of remotely managing Windows XP SP2 DameWare Mini Remote Control (hereinafter referred to as DMRC) is an excellent remote management software, which can be said to be a "magic weapon" for many system administrators. The system security and group policies of Windows XP SP2 have been significantly improved, so the use of DMRC is also limited. If the error is always reported during use, the main reason is caused by improper system and software settings.

The main reason for remote connection

When using DMRC to remotely manage a Windows XP SP2 version of the host, the system always gives an error and refuses to connect. The system error number is 10061. That can be summarized as follows:

1. When the account and password are incorrect, enter the correct account and password.

2. The remote host does not enable the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network" function in the network configuration.

3. The remote host has the Windows XP SP2 version operating system installed, and the DMRC can be used normally after the Windows firewall is turned off.

The first two methods are actually better solved. If you encounter Windows XP SP2 with the firewall turned on, let's put together a complete solution.

Let DMRC connect perfectly to remote Windows XP SP2

For the hosted Windows XP SP2 version, the operating system cannot be connected. Some websites say that Microsoft Windows Firewall can be turned off, but This solution is not perfect and reduces the security of the operating system. The author tries to give a "complete" solution, which is divided into the following steps:

Step 1: Make sure your remote host's account and password are correct, and the account has sufficient permissions.

Step 2: Make sure that your host and remote host have the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network" feature enabled.

Step 3: Turn off the "Use simple file sharing" function of the master and the controlled host. Open "My Computer", click "Tools → Folder Options", in the "Folder Options" window that pops up, click the "View" tab, and cancel the "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)" in "Advanced Settings" select.

Step 4: Modify the Microsoft firewall configuration of the master and the host to be licensed for port 6129. Open the "Control Panel → Windows Firewall → Exceptions" tab, and then click the "Add Port" button, enter the relevant exception port information in the input box (Figure 3), after the "OK" configuration is complete.

Step 5: Configure the group policy of the hosted Windows XP SP2 system to allow "remote management". Click “Start→Run”, enter gpedit.msc, and then click on the left side of the “Group Policy” window that pops up: “Computer Configuration→Administrative Template→Network→Network Connection→Windows Firewall”.

In the "Domain Profile" and "Standard Profile" under "Windows Firewall", readers should choose according to their specific conditions. In the network using domain management, you should select "domain profile". "Option, the author's network does not use domain management, so select "Standard Profile". Then double-click "Windows Firewall: Allow Remote Management Exceptions" on the right side of the interface and select "Enabled."

After the above five steps, you can use DMRC remote control to install the host of Windows XP SP2 operating system.
