Experts point Win XP disk partition application

compared with the bitter and difficult to understand partition operation in the DOS environment. In Windows XP, a more efficient and flexible partitioning operation can be performed on the hard disk by using a graphical interface and a user-friendly operation mode. Not only that, borrowing the powerful disk partition management function of Windows XP can also enhance the reasonable use of disk partitions and effectively improve the read and write speed of disks.

1. Partitioning and formatting the hard disk in one minute

Right-click on "My Computer" and select the "Manage" command. In the "Computer Management" window that opens, expand the "Computer Management" → "Storage" → "Disk Management" item. After that, you can see the partition status of the current hard disk in the right pane.

Right-click on the "unsigned" disk space and select the "New Disk Partition" command. In the disk partition wizard window that pops up, select the partition type as "Extended partition", click "Next", enter the capacity of the new partition, then set the disk file format of the partition here, and check "Do not format" Item, and finally click the "Finish" button to complete the partition operation. Then open "My Computer", right click on the new partition, select the "Format" command, use the quick format mode, you can complete the partition to format all operations within one minute.

2. Folding and merging disk partitions

If a partition on a hard disk is too large, split it into two partitions. First save all the files in the disk partition to other partitions. Then right-click on the partition in Disk Management and select the Delete Logical Partition command. After the confirmation is completed, the partition is deleted. At this time, the partition will be recognized as "unassigned" disk space in the list.

After that, as in the above operation, on the "unsigned" disk space, use the "New Disk Partition" command to set the space size of the newly created partition and format the newly created two partitions.

When you need to merge two partitions, you can save all the data and use the Delete Logical Partition command to get two blank Unassigned partitions. Then select the "unassigned" partition, right click and select the "New Disk Partition" command to complete the partition consolidation.

3. Compressing partitions increases disk space

If a disk partition is tight and the data in that partition is not being read frequently, the partition can be compressed to "increase" the available space. Since the compressed partition must be in the NTFS disk format, for the partition using the FAT32 disk format, you can first convert the partition to NTFS disk format by executing the "Convert drive letter /FS: NTFS" command in the command prompt window. . After that, right click on the partition you want to compress and select the "Properties" command. In the window that opens, select the "General" tab and check the "Compress drive to save disk space" item. After the window is closed, the system will perform a disk compression operation. Upon completion, the remaining space of the partition will be increased.

4. Expanding the partition under the command line

If there is not enough free space in a partition, you can also use the partition expansion method to increase the available space. In the command prompt window, execute the "Diskpart" command to start the command line disk management tool. Then execute the "list partition" command to display the current system partition list. Assuming that the third partition is to be deleted and the second partition is expanded, the command "Select Parttition 3" can be executed to make the third partition have the focus attribute, and then the "Delete Partition" can be executed to delete the third partition.

Then execute the "Select partition 2" command to make the second partition have the focus attribute, and then execute the "Extend" command to automatically add the previously deleted partition space to the second partition. If the second partition to be expanded adopts the NTFS disk format, no data will be lost after the expansion. Finally, execute the "Exit" command and return to "My Computer" to see that the hard disk partition has been expanded.

5. Double the hard disk transfer speed

If there are two hard disks, with the dynamic volume function in Windows XP, the hard disk transfer speed can be greatly improved. First, convert all partitions in both hard drives to NTFS disk format. Then open the "Disk Management" window, right click on the two hard drives, select the "Convert to Dynamic Disk" command in the pop-up menu, convert both hard drives into dynamic disks.

Right click on the black area after the second hard drive and select the "New Volume" command. In the dialog that opens, click "Next", and there are 3 options, select "Striped Volume". Click "Next", the second hard disk will appear in the "Selectable" list, in the space below, enter the space to control a single hard disk. Click Next to assign a drive letter to the created partition. Click "Next", select the NTFS disk format to quickly format the partition, and finally click "Finish". The gray area displayed in the partition list of the Disk Management window is the newly created striped volume.

Open "My Computer" and you will see the newly created partition. When reading data in this partition, you can achieve nearly twice the data transfer rate. Using the same steps, the remaining space is newly created as a striped volume, which can enjoy the high data transfer rate advantage brought by the disk array in disguise.
