Win XP/2003 how to make good use of pre-read files to make the system smoother

How does Win XP/2003 use pre-read files to make the system smoother?

There is a Prefetch folder in the Windows XP/Server 2003 system disk. This folder has the extension in the form of PF. It can improve the performance of the system, speed up the system startup speed, and improve the speed of reading files. This folder is a pre-read file. Although this file has a very good function, it will generate a large amount of pre-read files for a long time, which will occupy a large amount of hard disk space, make the system run slower, and the search takes longer. Therefore, how to manage these files well is a crucial thing.

The first step is to find the pre-reading method that suits you.

In the default system, Windows XP/Server 2003 can only pre-read Windows system files. We can change the pre-reading method and set the pre-read object by ourselves.

The method is as follows:

1) Click “Start →Run”, enter “Regedit”,

in the Run dialog box to open the registry editor Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MacHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Session Manager\\Memory Management\\PrefetchParameters branch and find the “EnablePrefetcher” in the right window, which is the pre-read mode of Windows XP/Server 2003 controlled by this key.

3) Double-click on “EnablePrefetcher” to open the “DWord” value edit window and pre-read the Windows XP/Server 2003 by changing the value of “Value Data”. Set “Value Data” to:

“0”——Cancel the pre-read function;

“1”——The system will only pre-read Application;

“2”—— The system will only pre-read Windows system files, this is the default setting of Windows XP/Server 2003;

“3”— — The system will pre-read Windows system files and applications.

The above is based on your computer configuration to define the pre-reading method that suits you.

The second step is to develop a good habit of regularly cleaning up pre-read files.

You can manually delete all the files in the Prefetch folder at intervals. After a long time of good habits, the system's pre-reading function will serve us better.

The above is the step of pre-reading the files in the system. As long as you make full use of this function, you can save a lot of space for the hard disk, reduce the search load of the system, and improve the running speed of the system.
