Microsoft: Not all pirated XP users can update SP2

The day before yesterday, there was a message from ComputerTimes that Microsoft decided to open SP2 to pirated Windows XP users for security reasons. However, Betanews reported yesterday that Microsoft has stated that it will not allow users who illegally acquire Windows XP to perform the latest updates to the system! Conversely, Microsoft will continue to enforce its licensing strategy.

Barry Goffe, Microsoft's collective product manager, said in a phone interview with ComputerTimes that Windows XP SP2 updates will not exclude pirated operating systems. "To protect users who use pirated Windows, keep them safe." Sex is more important than focusing on income issues."

In order to clarify the stand of Microsoft, the software giant's spokesman BetaNews said: media recently reported on Windows XP SP2 will be installed on pirated or illegal copies on a not entirely correct. SP2 will detect the system's product ID (PID) before installation. Those pirated PIDs that have been confirmed will be considered invalid and SP2 cannot be installed.

BetaNews through Microsoft's internal sources confirmed the authenticity of the above statement.

Jupiter Research senior analyst Joe Wilcox said, "Microsoft's positioning of SP2 is no different from SP1, so no one should be surprised by the fact that SP2 can't be installed on pirated Windows XP. Allow Those systems that use leak activation codes will perform updates that will fuel piracy, which is what Microsoft has been trying to avoid."

However, Wilcox also pointed out: "Windows XP infected by worms or Trojans. It is unclear exactly how many pirated products are used on a computer. Even if it is rejected for reasonable reasons, it may lead to legitimate security problems for legitimate Microsoft users."
