Windows XP Optimization Guide (on)

        Before you start, be sure to log in to the operating system as an administrator, because some options are not available for normal users. Next, please activate ClearType. ClearType makes the text on the desktop look more legible and easy to read - this is especially important for laptop or LCD users. See below for the effect of closing and opening ClearType. Figure:

Close Clear FontsClearType

Open Clear FontsCleartype

To activate ClearType, open the display properties of the Control Panel and click on "Appearances" Appearance)" tab, then click on the "Effects..." button, the following dialog box will pop up (because the author is using the English version, involving the Windows interface, the following are the same as before Write the English and indicate the Chinese meaning in parentheses):

Check the "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts..." and select the drop-down menu. Select "ClearType" and click the OK button.

The effect is much better? Let's take a look at the other optimizations!

Good... first take a look at some basic optimizations. Some of them are optimized settings on previous versions such as Windows 95/98/ME, which are also valid in XP. All of these optimizations are tested in Windows XP Professional - they are mostly in XP Home Edition. Effective, some optimizations have changed their name in the home version

Optimization one - MsConfig

Most friends should be familiar with MsConfig, this is a system built-in Windows setting tool. Click on the Start menu, select "Run", then type "msconfig" in the entry box and press Enter. What we need to do is the “Startup” tab. Click on it to see the interface:

This tab shows all the programs that are running when Windows starts. . There is no program here that is life-and-death for Windows, so feel free to remove the unwanted ones. As you can see, I put NDetect (ICQ startup program) and WinAmpa (that is, MP3 player Winamp). After removing some of the hooks, the Windows startup will be faster, and the idle system resources will be more.

Optimization 2 - Other Startup Optimization

After completing the previous optimization, let us further penetrate other startup items. Click Start again -> Run, type "services.msc" in the entry box, and press Enter to bring up the following window:

This is a more detailed list of Windows startup processes. Any item marked "Automatic" on the right side of the name is the software that runs when Windows starts. Clicking on one of the mouse clicks will display some text indicating what it does. Zhongguo decided not to need a certain service, just right click on it and change the "Automatic" in the attribute to "Manual".

three --IE optimization techniques to accelerate Web browser

Windows XP comes with Internet Explorer 6, a tip, and then modify the startup was fast (on my machine, is simply the moment start up). Some friends have tried to create a shortcut for the "half-life" game. After a certain method is modified, the startup speeds up. The same principle is used here. Right click on the Internet Explorer shortcut icon (such as the IE icon in the shortcut bar on the taskbar), open the icon properties and add the "-nohome" parameter after the "Target", as shown below:

Optimization 4 - Menu Delay

Another simple optimization trick is to remove the delay when sliding out the menu. To modify this, use the Registry Editor (click Start -> Run, then type "regedit" to enter). The key value to be modified is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Control Panel\\Desktop. The specific key name to be modified is MenuShowDelay - just change the value to 0. Remember, the changes will not take effect until you restart your computer.

Optimization 5 - GPEDIT and Autoplay

Windows XP comes with a very useful optimization file, which is gpedit.msc. Start -> Run, type "gpedit.msc" and press Enter. This is a very effective editing tool that makes it easy to modify some common settings. For example, if you don't like CD autoplay, it's easy to modify it with this tool. After running gpedit.msc, click Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System ), you can see a "Turn off Autoplay" value, right click on it and select "Properties":

There are many other settings here, slowly Play and see what is worth optimizing.

Optimization 6 - Looking for options hidden in the "Add/Remove" menu

Don't like MSN Messenger, or want to put Windows Media Player media player Give it a deletion? Unfortunately, open the "Add /Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, Windows XP comes with the program is not inside. It's actually very easy to find, just open the Windows\\inf\\sysoc.inf file with Notepad and find something like this:

[Components]
NtComponents=ntoc.dll,NtOcSetupProc,,4
WBEM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wbemoc.inf,hide,7
Display=desk.cpl,DisplayOcSetupProc,,7
Fax=fxsocm.dll,FaxOcmSetupProc,fxsocm.inf,,7
NetOC =netoc.dll, NetOcSetupProc, netoc.inf,,7
iis=iis.dll,OcEntry,IIS.inf,,7
com=comsetup.dll,OcEntry,comnt5.inf,hide,7
dtc=msdtcstp.dll,OcEntry,dtcnt5.inf,hide,7
IndexSrv_System = setupqry.dll,IndexSrv,setupqry.inf,,7
TerminalServer=TsOc.dll, HydraOc, TsOc.inf,hide, 2
msmq=msmqocm.dll, MsmqOcm, msmqocm.inf,,6
ims=imsinsnt.dll,OcEntry,ims.inf,,7
fp_extensions=fp40ext.dll, FrontPage4Extensions,fp40ext.inf, ,7
AutoUpdate=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,au.inf,hide,7
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
RootAutoUpdate=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,rootau .inf,,7
IEAccess=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,IEAccess.inf,,7

This is a list of all currently installed parts, continue ahead MSN Mes In the senger example, the program entry name is "msmsgs", the third last line. I can see the word "hide" marked red by me. This parameter does not display this item in controlling Windows "Add/Remove Programs". Just delete the "hide" and you have the following:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

Change to:

msmsgs =msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

Now restart your computer and you will see MSN Messenger in the "Add/Remove Programs" list. If you want to see all the installed components in Add/Remove Programs, just open the sysoc.inf file with Notepad and replace all ", hide" with "," with Notepad's Find/Replace function.
