1. Delete unnecessary files in the system

(1) Delete system files backup

In the system32\\dllcache directory of the system file, there are nearly 250MB files, they It is a backup of Windows? XP system files. When the Windows XP system files are replaced, deleted or modified, Windows XP can automatically extract the corresponding system file restores to ensure the stability of the system. This folder cannot be deleted directly, but you can clear it by typing the Sfc.exe /purgecache command at the command prompt.

(2) Delete the driver backup

Delete the Driver.cab file in the "driver cache\\i386" directory of the Windows XP system directory, which saves the backup of the hardware driver. No need to use it. Even if you need to install new hardware, you can insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.

(4) Deleting help files

XP help files are stored in the Help folder under the system installation directory, you can delete all the files and directories under it.

2. Reduce the hard disk space occupied by the system

(1) Turn off the system restore

System Restore can return the computer to an earlier time (called the restore point) We won't lose our recent work, but after a long time, it will take up a lot of hard disk space. Therefore, it is necessary to manually set it to reduce the amount of hard disk usage.

Open the System Properties dialog box, select the System Restore tab in the dialog box, and select the Turn off system restore on all drives check box to turn off System Restore. If you do not turn off System Restore, you can set up a restore only for the disk or partition on which the system resides. First select the partition where the system is located, click the "Configure" button, in the pop-up dialog box, cancel the "Close the system restore of this drive" option, and set the amount of disk space for system restore.

(2) Turn off hibernation support

Hibernate function will take up a lot of hard disk space. If you use less, you can turn it off. The method of closing is: open "Control Panel" and double click "Power Options", in the "Power Options Properties" dialog box that pops up, select the "Hibernate" tab and uncheck the "Enable hibernation" checkbox.

(3) reduce or disable virtual memory

When the system's physical memory is relatively large, you can consider reducing the value of virtual memory or even cancel virtual memory, when you have 512MB of physical memory Virtual memory is set to half of physical memory, which is 256MB. 3.Clear Temporary Files

(1)Clear System Temporary Files

Temporary files of the system are generally stored in two locations: a Temp file in a Windows installation directory. Clip; the other is X:\\Documents and Settings\\"Username"\\Local Settings\\Temp folder (X: is the partition where the system is located). Files in both locations can be deleted directly.

(2) Clear Temporary Internet Files

A long time for Internet access will generate a large number of temporary Internet files. Regular deletion will save a lot of hard disk space.

Open Internet Explorer, select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu, select the "General" tab in the pop-up dialog box, and click "Delete Files" in the "Temporary Internet Files" column. Button, and in the "Delete Files" dialog box, select the "Delete all offline content" check box, click the "OK" button.

You can also set the disk occupied by temporary Internet files to an acceptable range, click the "Settings" button in the "Temporary Internet Files" column, and then in the "Settings" dialog box (Figure) Set the disk space occupied by temporary files, or move the folder of temporary Internet files to another partition to reduce the disk usage of the system partition.

4. File compression in NTFS partitions

Windows XP provides file compression properties for NTFS partition files, which can effectively save disk space.

In the NTFS partition, select the file or folder to be compressed, right-click, select the "Properties" command in the shortcut menu, and then in the "General" tab of the "Properties" dialog box Click the "Advanced" button, in the "Compress or Encryption Properties" column of the new dialog box, select the "Compress content to save disk space" check box, after "OK" you will find that the disk space occupied by the file is greatly reduced It is.

5. Clear Windows XP shared folder

"Shared folder", this folder is useful when we use the workgroup, you can directly share the file without any settings Put it in this shared folder, but in practice, many people don't need this feature. We can disable this feature by modifying the registry to save disk space.
