Windows 2000

Windows 2000 was released on February 17, 2000. Windows 2000 is an important upgrade to Windows NT 4.0, but it is not limited to this. The Windows 2000 Professional Edition is designed to replace Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 Workstation and other commercial software platforms. As an important Windows milestone, Windows 2000 also has many derivative versions:

Professional Edition: This is the client version, which is the previous workstation version upgrade, mainly for desktop computers

Server Edition : The version used by the entry-level server, designed primarily for small business users, departments; performing file, print, and intranet services.

Advanced Server Edition: A high-performance server version for high-volume networks and applications, suitable for small and medium-sized websites.

Data Center Edition: A large collection of server-aware clusters designed to be more suitable for large applications.

The Windows 2000 interface has little improvement with Windows 98 or NT 4.0, integrating IE4 or 5. For IT professionals, the Windows 2000 family of products provides central control features, policy management, internal image management, and Active Directory services. Compared with the previous Windows NT, Windows 2000 is more suitable for commercial IT staff, and many companies quickly migrated from NT to Windows 2000 and continue to use it.

Windows Millennium Edition (ME)

The Windows Millennium Edition was released on September 14, 2000. Originally, Microsoft claimed that Windows 98 Second Edition is the last hybrid kernel for Windows. Windows is based on the NT kernel; but Microsoft has re-spoken again (they always renege). Windows 2000 did not achieve their expected results, at least on the desktop system used by individuals, Windows 2000 is not ambition, because it is not very useful in multimedia, games and other aspects.

Although everyone knows that the Win9x kernel will be eliminated sooner or later, Microsoft can't let other companies' products fill the gaps in Windows 98, so Windows Millennium is released. Simply put, it's no exaggeration to think of Me as the third edition of Windows 98. However, Microsoft's product design ideas for Focus are more clear. Me's appeal is to enhance multimedia, improve ease of use, and be more stable; for example, adding system restore function, although not perfect, but it does solve many Windows 98 often need to reinstall the system. The problem.

For Windows 2000, Windows Me is lagging behind in technology
, and it is not stable enough, but this is only a temporary transition, which is enough. In the OEM market, vendors are very positive about Windows ME, and many desktop and notebook products are pre-installed with Me.

Windows XP

On October 25, 2001, Microsoft finally opened up and released the official version of Windows XP; this avoids an embarrassing problem: the problem of being outdated quickly. For example, a new version of Windows 98 is still being released in 1999, which is very outdated. And this time Microsoft changed its name to a very strange abbreviation -- "XP, ExperIEnce (experience)". Microsoft held a grand and grand conference in the United States and Europe. The scale of the marketing war was definitely more than that of Windows 95. As the sales figures kept on record, Bill Gates’s fears slowly fell into the bottom of my heart. This marketing case is actually very successful, because it is not economical.

Windows XP has two major versions: Professional and Home, which are targeted at unused user groups. At this point, the marketing ideas of the Microsoft market segment have been fully implemented, separating the home users from the business user area of the login domain, and maximizing profits in profits. In fact, at the time of development, the home version was called "Personal Edition, Personal Edition", but later Microsoft felt that this was not clear enough, so the market researchers were renamed, and the final decision was the home version. In addition, Windows XP has evolved several other special versions, mainly for OEM manufacturers:

Tablet PC, Media Center and Windows XP Embedded. Tablet PC version is a version that is sold with a handwritten computer. In fact, the professional version is more handwritten. The Media Center Edition is a professional version plus some multimedia applications, and optimized for the hardware such as TV. The embedded version is designed for portable devices and is similar to the slimming version of Windows XP. Windows PE version (preinstallation environment Preinstallation Environment) can be seen as the smallest set of Windows XP, this software is only more than one hundred MB, I like this system, boot from this CD can Mount to NTFS partition (9x boot disk certainly not ), and then perform some simple tasks.

Windows XP Professional

Windows XP Professional has many advantages of NT kernel system, such as: excellent system performance, including preemptive multitasking, fault tolerance, system memory protection. More importantly, Windows XP is very compatible with previous applications, including most Win9x software (compared to Windows 2000). In the user interface, Microsoft has spent a lot of effort to redesign, make it more friendly, easier to operate, and Windows XP is also beautiful in terms of look and feel, of course, at the cost of improving system hardware requirements. At the beginning of Windows XP, users can use the remote desktop so that they can help others without having to go to him, and vice versa. 802.11 wireless network support is also officially integrated into the system, as well as Windows Messenger (MSN), a more complete system response.

Only the Professional Edition can log in to the LAN domain, and only the Professional Edition comes with IIS and file encryption protection.

Windows XP Home Edition

According to Microsoft, the Windows XP version of the home version only removes some commercial features, retains simple system functions, and has built-in Microsoft Windows Media Player, Windows MovIE Maker, etc. Enhanced digital audio and video functions (in fact, the professional version also has), which is a few hundred cheaper than the professional version.

Windows XP Embedded

The Windows XP embedded version, which was released late, is almost released on November 28, 2001 for more than a year.

This is the industry-leading embedded software introduced by Microsoft after the Windows NT embedded system. It has security enhancement, high system performance, and powerful multimedia and web browsing capabilities. widely. An embedded system is a device that is used to control, monitor, manage, or assist in the operation of other devices/facilities in real time. It can be a dedicated or multi-purpose (but generally programmable) device, which can be hardware or software, embedded systems. The "embedded" nature means that the systems themselves are integrated with the systems they control and manage, and are an integral part of them, the basic building blocks of various control systems. It has a wide range of uses in business, industry, and the like.

Windows XP Media Center Edition

Windows XP Media Center Edition is released later, on October 14, 2002. Use Windows XP Media Center Edition to remotely control your computer, watch TV, DVD, video, and enjoy songs, browse pictures, etc. In the user interface, this version is very similar to a TV, hiding complex PC operations into the background, the interface A smoother style, an animated effect, and a simple navigation bar.

Although Microsoft does not currently sell Media Center Edition Windows XP to the retail market, many well-known computer manufacturers support this design. When it was offered in North America in 2002, AlIEnware, Gateway and Hewlett-Packard launched Related pre-installed media center version of the computer, in Taiwan, Hong Kong, similar to ViewSonic and other manufacturers have also launched related products, Microsoft also plans to sell such products to Europe and other places.

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is a few days later than the Media Center Edition, which was on November 6th, 2002, but received a warmer welcome. In particular, notebook manufacturers see it as another starting point for new students. This is because the notebook industry market has developed to a certain stage, the market maturity is relatively high, and the current economy has been relatively low, consumers' enthusiasm for notebooks is not very high.

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition extends handwriting and voice input based on Windows XP Professional and is optimized for hardware. Users can write directly on the display using the stylus instead of typing through the keyboard as before. "Digital Ink" Technology
can be annotated on articles, web pages, etc. that have been read, and can send existing information plus your own comments to others. For the Office software, Microsoft has introduced the corresponding update program to make it work more closely with the Tablet PC.

In fact, in terms of functionality, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP Professional Edition are very different, just more handwriting recognition, and related small programs; but why should Microsoft pay special attention to this product? Because the PC has been relatively rigid since its inception, Bill Gates has always had a dream to change this fact. Prior to this, Windows 3.x had a "Windows for penning", but unfortunately the timing was not very good, and the handwriting recognition technology
was not mature enough, and it was not enough to promote it. Microsoft has not died. After all, the way people operate computers in the future should be more natural. Therefore, in the experience of the previous experience, Windows XP Tablet PC version has come back, at least it has been supported by many hardware manufacturers, and finally can win. The heart of the consumer, it will take time to decide.

Windows XP Preinstalled Environment Edition

Windows XP Preinstalled Environment Edition (WinPE) is a collection of Win32 subsystems and services that are based on Windows XP Professional. This thing is just a minimal set of systems for setting system functions and network sharing, automatic basic processes, and hardware verification.

Windows XP Preinstalled Environment Edition allows users to format hard drive partitions, access files (included in NTFS partitions), and access internal networks. This product supports mass storage devices and drivers with Windows 2000/XP. However, unlike the previous Win9x system core, a floppy disk is definitely not installed; I have only one hundred MB of WinPE on hand, just put it on an 8cm CD; this CD itself can be booted. Support CD-ROM, DVD (ISO format), support Remote Installation Server (RIS).

Speaking of the Windows XP family, you can't help but mention this. In order to protect copyright, Microsoft has added activation function to the product from Office 2000. In short, a set of software can only be installed on one PC and bound to the hardware model. It may be that the effect is very good. Microsoft has fully promoted the activation strategy in the operating system since Windows XP. Therefore, the battle between the cracking organization and Microsoft has been continuously carried out. Although new cracks have emerged, no one can fully analyze Microsoft's encryption algorithm and make a registration machine (Keygen). Compared to Windows 95, the "Start" menu has been greatly improved, and it is possible to dynamically arrange the programs and files commonly used by users to the easiest place to choose.
