WinXP: Alternative Usage of Favorites

  
        As we all know, IE browser has a "collection" menu, you can always collect your favorite web pages, next time you want to visit the web page, just open the favorites, click on the web page to enter. In many people's minds, favorites are only used in Internet Explorer to help users collect and quickly access URLs. In fact, there are favorites in many places in the computer, and favorites can be used for "My Computer", "My Network Places", "Explorer", "Control Panel", and even "Recycle Bin". Windows XP allows you to open your favorite websites and favorite content from anywhere on your computer.

First, save files or folders

Favorites can not only save the URL, but also can be used to save a file or folder on the computer.

1. Save the folder

Open the Windows Explorer, go to the target folder, then click the “Favorites” menu item in the menu bar with the mouse and select “Add” from the drop-down menu. To the Favorites command, the system will pop up the “Add to Favorites” window, where you can define the directory name and where to create it according to your hobbies. Click “OK” button when you are done, so you can hide this deeply. The directory is added to your favorites.

When you want to use it later, just open the favorite webpage and open it in your favorites.

2, save the file

If you want to add a file to your favorites, you should use the above method, first save the folder where it is stored in the favorites, and then click "Favorites" menu, find the folder in the list, right click, execute the "Properties" command, open the "Properties" window, select the "Shortcuts" tab, enter the file name in the "Target" input box (including Where the path is), for example, to save the Foxmail help file to your favorites, type "c:\\Program Files\\foxmail\\FoxHelp.CHM" (as shown), and finally press "Apply" to exit.
This way you can open the file by clicking it in the Favorites menu.



Second, save the application

Windows XP Favorites can actually save the application, we will add Foxmail program in the favorites (program path is c:\\Program Files\\foxmail\\Foxmail.exe), for example, the operation password is detailed:

First open the Windows Explorer, enter the application directory c:\\Program Files\\foxmail, and then use Click the “Favorites” menu item in the menu bar, select the “Add to Favorites” command in the drop-down menu, the “Add to Favorites” window will pop up, and the name will be changed to “foxmail program” in the “Name” window. The "Create to" location remains the same. Click the "OK" button when done and add the c:\\Program Files\\foxmail directory to your favorites.

Next, use the mouse to click the "Favorites" menu item in the menu bar, open the "Favorites" menu drop-down list, find the "foxmail program" we just created, click the right mouse button, pop-up menu, select menu At the bottom of the "Properties" option, then click with the mouse, the system pops up the "foxmail program properties" window, select the "shortcuts" tab, enter the full program path c: \\ in the "target" input box "foxmail" program Program Files\\foxmail\\Foxmail.exe, then click the "Apply" button with your mouse, and finally click the "Close" button to exit.

Now, as long as you click "Start" /Favorites, click on the Foxmail program, you can run Foxmail.

Third, save the "Control Panel", "Printer", "Dial-up Network"

You can also save the "Control Panel", "Printer", "Dial-up Network", etc. Yes: Open Windows XP Explorer, click the left mouse button in the "Folder" window on the left side of the Explorer, select the content you want to add to your favorites (such as "Control Panel"), and then use the mouse Click the "Favorites" menu in the menu bar, open the drop-down menu, select the "Add to Favorites" command, the system pops up the "Add to Favorites" window, where you can define the name and where to create according to your hobbies, after completion Click the "OK" button.
With the above method, you can also add items such as "printer" and "dial-up network" to your favorites.
