Solve network failures caused by Windows XP SP2

Recently, many friends have reported that after installing SP2, some very normal web applications have had strange problems. So, is SP2 really as full of BUG as everyone thinks? The following questions about the problems encountered after applying SP2, answering the causes and solutions one by one, I hope that in the process of using SP2 Some help.
Because Windows XP SP2 security design "starting point" is too high, the system has opened a lot of security services by default, so many users can not quickly adapt to SP2, which leads to some application problems frequently appear. Solving these problems also requires some skill.
OE can't display pictures
Some of the friends who use Outlook Express report that the mail received through OE can't display the pictures in the mail, but the same mail received by Foxmail does not have this problem.
The first thing to say is that this problem is caused by the SP2's specially developed attachment manager security policy for OE.
We know that spam can't reply, because spam has no purpose, the sender doesn't know whether the email address is true or not. If the recipient replies to the spam, it is equal to telling the sender's mailbox. It's effective.
But it doesn't seem to be a response to spam now, because the sender will send some images directly saved on the server as email attachments. The normal OE will automatically download the image from the web server when receiving the email. Since the download process is recorded by the server, the sender can easily know which mailbox is in use. In SP2, in order to prevent this trick, the function of displaying the image attachment when the OE receives the mail is prohibited by default, which is why the OE cannot display the mail picture.
Workaround: When receiving the mail, click the "Click here to download the picture" in the message in the middle of the mail window. To display images for all messages, click Tools→Options in OE to uncheck the “Block images and other external content in HTML emails” option in the Security tab.
Share failure
After installing LAN2, some LAN users can find the shared printer that can be searched and printed. It can't be found in the network neighborhood.
This is because Windows XP is fully enabled by default after installing SP2, which means all network connections for computers running Windows XP SP2, including wired LAN and wireless LAN, dial-up and virtual private network The (VPN) connection has Windows Firewall enabled. At the same time, this problem occurs because Windows Firewall prohibits "file and printer sharing" by default.
Workaround: Enter the "Local Area Connection" property window for the LAN connection, click the "Settings" button in the "Advanced" tab settings interface, and in the "Windows Firewall" interface that pops up, check the "Exceptions" tab. The File and Printer Sharing option in the Programs & Services list of the interface.
Alerts when accessing the network

Some users who have just installed SP2 ask why the "Windows Security Alert" prompt box pops up when FTP, QQ chat, QQ game, MSN Messenger login. Is there any security risk with these programs?
This is actually a problem caused by the Windows Firewall feature added by SP2. Its use is somewhat similar to the famous "Skynet Firewall", we have to manually set the network access status of the application. When the Windows Firewall is in the "Enable (recommended) no exception" state, all packets will be blocked. This function can better solve the troubles caused by network attacks and malicious programs.
Workaround: When using the application, click the "Unblock" button in the pop-up "Windows Security Alert" dialog box.
The pictures in some HTML files cannot be displayed
Some users report that after installing SP2, sometimes when opening an HTML file in IE, an ActiveX error message will appear and the picture will not display properly.
This problem may be caused by the enhanced security features in SP2. By default, SP2 enables a security policy that helps users protect against malicious attacks.
Workaround: Open the Registry Editor and go to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Micro
soft\\Internet Explorer\\Main\\FeatureControl\\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN" branch, and the "iexplore.exe" and "explorer.exe" on the right side of the window. "Change the value of the two keys to "0" and restart Windows.
Hint: When the value of the FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN subkey is set to 1, Windows XP SP2 will implement restrictions such as "Disable ActiveX", "Disable Java", and "Prompt Script Running" for Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
Remote Desktop Sharing Fails
Many of my friends have reported that when Windows XP is turned on, when Windows XP is turned on, the functions that have been running normally are not working successfully.
In the SP2 environment, Windows Firewall is enabled by default. Therefore, before using NetMeeting's Remote Desktop Sharing feature, you must add a firewall rule to the NetMeeting and mnmsrvc.exe files in the Programs and Services list on the Windows Firewall's Exceptions tab, otherwise it will appear. The application failed to run.
Workaround: Enter the "Firewall.cpL" command in the "Run" field to open the "Windows Firewall" settings interface, click "Add Program" in the "Exceptions" tab, then click "Browse", in "Browse" In the dialog box, find the "X:\\Program Files\\NetMeeting" directory, select the "conf.exe" program and click "Open" and confirm. Then click the "Add Program" button in the "Exceptions" tab again, in the "Browse" dialog box, find the "X:\\Windows\\System32" directory, select the "mnmsrvc.exe" program and click the "Open" button and confirm Just fine.
The pop-up announcement of the website cannot be displayed
Many people report that when visiting some government websites, they can use the pop-up announcement window to get some information. After installing SP2, these announcement windows can no longer be seen.
This is actually caused by the "block pop-up" feature of IE in SP2.
Workaround: If you want to close the pop-up blocker, just go to the IE Properties window and uncheck the "Block Pop-up" option in the "Privacy" tab interface. However, after this setting, some useless pop-up windows will also be displayed, so Dr. e suggested that you click the “Settings” button and add a website that allows pop-ups to appear in the pop-up dialog box.
Modify the default security level of IE is invalid
Someone said that after installing SP2, when the security level of IE needs to be lowered (the default is medium), the modification operation is invalid. When you enter the settings interface again, you find that the security level is still "medium", making it impossible to access certain websites.
This problem is caused by the fact that SP2 automatically imposes restrictions on certain users who violate the settings.
Workaround: Open the registry editor, find the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Micros
oft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings\\Zones\\3" branch, and change the "MinLevel" to "10000" in the right window. After hexadecimal, you can set a lower security level in the IE properties.
Unable to set cookies

After installing SP2, some friends found that when they visited the forum where cookies were forbidden before, they could not do this by double-clicking the cookie setting function on the lower right side of the IE window. Manage to log in to the forum. When you visit these forums now, the name of the forum can be displayed on the title of IE, but there is no content displayed on the webpage.
This problem is because after the SP2 is installed, the previous cookie settings are collected in the IE Privacy Operations Manager, because the settings here take precedence over the cookie settings in other places, so the forum has been set to prohibit the use of cookies. If you want to change to allow cookies, you must manage them in the IE Privacy Operations Manager.
Workaround: If you want to manually adjust the cookie usage status of some forums, you must enter the IE property window, click the "Site" button in the "Privacy" tab settings interface, and then pop up the "Private operation per site" In the interface, delete the site that has been set to refuse to use cookies in the "Managed Websites" list, then enter the website URL in the "Website Address" field and click the "Allow" button on the right.
Plugin problem
After installing SP2, I found that I can't use IE to open some links that I can access normally.
This problem may be caused by the user installing more IE plugins, because these plugins are very likely to conflict with SP2's "masking" function.
Workaround: It is recommended that you remove all plugins other than the Google plugin (verified, no conflicts) before installing SP2, and then install SP2.
If you run SP2 after installing SP2, it will cause IE to close unexpectedly. Please uninstall the corresponding plugin. This is because these plugins are designed for earlier versions of IE. After we installed SP2 for Windows XP, IE also implemented IE SP2 synchronization upgrade (that is, Windows XP SP2 includes IE SP2). There will be some incompatibility issues.
If you run IE after installing SP2 and you are prompted that some plug-ins cannot be installed without signature authentication, the solution is to enter the "Advanced" tab in the IE Properties window, and check the "Security" section of "Allow Run or Install the software, even if the signature is invalid" option.
Peer-to-peer service failure
After installing SP2, some friends found that they were unable to succeed when they performed peer-to-peer services as before.
This issue is also caused by the security policy of Windows Firewall in SP2.
Workaround: Run "Add/Remove Programs", click "Add/Remove Windows Components" in the pop-up window, and in the pop-up list of components, select the "Peer-to-Peer" component under "Network Services". . This allows the Windows Firewall to be configured to allow peer-to-peer network connections.
