In addition to the system restore function, the System File Checker (Sfc.exe) is also considered the most original Windows System Restore tool.

Windows XP's System File Checker can scan all protected system files to verify their version, set file cache size, clear file cache, and repopulate "%SystemRoot%\\System32\\Dllcache" folder.

To enable the System File Checker in Windows XP, first run the Command Prompt: Click Start → All Programs → Accessories → Command Prompt, or click Start → Run. "Command, type "cmd" in the command line and press the Enter key. Then type "Sfc" at the cursor prompt in the Command Prompt window and press Enter.

For example, if we type "Sfc/SCANNOW", press the Enter key, the "System File Checker" will start to check whether the current system file is damaged, the version is correct, if an error is found, the program will You are asked to insert the Windows XP installation CD to repair or replace the incorrect file.

If the Dllcache folder is corrupted or unavailable, you can also use the "Sfc/scanonce" or "Sfc/scanboot" command to repair the contents of the folder to ensure the security and stability of the system.

Tip: In Windows 98, we can click "Start → Programs → Accessories → System Tools → System Information", and then click "Tools → System File Checker".
