The signs and repairs of bad sectors in the hard disk (1)

Symptoms of bad sectors on the hard disk

Hard disk bad sectors are divided into logical bad sectors and physical bad sectors. The former is soft bad sectors, usually caused by improper software operation or use, and can be repaired by software. The latter is a real physical bad track, which indicates that physical damage has occurred on your hard disk track and can only be resolved by changing the usage of the hard disk partition or sector. Your hard drive may have bad sectors in the following situations:

First, when you open, run, or copy a file, the hard disk appears to be slower, and it may not be successful for a long time or behave as Long-term death & quo

Secondly, every time you turn on the computer, the Scandisk disk program runs automatically, which definitely indicates that there are important errors on your hard disk that need to be fixed, such as bad sectors. If you can't pass the program successfully, it means that the hard drive must have bad sectors. Of course, although the scan can also pass, but the red "B" and "B", indicating that it also has bad sectors.

Third, the hard disk can not be booted when the computer starts. After booting from a floppy disk or CD, you can see the hard disk drive letter but you cannot operate the operation or the operation is wrong or you can't see the drive letter. There may be bad sectors. Specific performance, such as the power-on self-test process, the screen prompts "Hard disk drive failure", "Hard drive controller failure" or similar information, you can judge the hard drive or hard disk controller hardware failure; when reading and writing the hard disk prompt "Sector Not found” or <;General error in reading drive C” and similar error messages indicate physical damage to the hard disk track.

Fourth, the computer crashes during normal operation or "the file is corrupted" and other issues may also be related to bad sectors of the hard disk. Bad-track repair method Because the hard disk uses magnetic media to store data, after a long period of use or improper use, it is inevitable that some problems will occur, which is what we usually call "bad sectors", of course, this is bad. The road may be a software error, or it may be a hardware failure of the hard disk itself, but it does not mean that the hard disk will be scrapped after it has bad sectors. In fact, the processing method is appropriate, we can completely make the hard disk "restore health", at least You can also let the hard drive "longevity". Classification of Bad Roads In addition to the quality of the hard disk itself and the cause of aging, the bad sectors of the hard disk are largely due to improper use. Hard disk bad sectors can be divided into logical bad sectors and physical bad sectors according to their nature. In simple terms, logical bad sectors are caused by some software or improper use. Such bad sectors can be repaired by software, while physical bad sectors can be repaired. There is a problem with the magnetic media of the hard disk itself, such as physical damage to the disk, and such failures are usually not repaired by software. If your hard disk has the following symptoms, you should pay attention to whether the hard disk has bad sectors: (1) When reading a certain file or running a program, the hard disk repeatedly reads the disk and an error occurs, prompting the file to be damaged, etc. Information, or it takes a long time to succeed; sometimes even a blue screen appears; (2) The sound of the hard disk suddenly changes from the normal friction sound to a strange sound; (3) The system cannot start normally when the virus infection is excluded. (Sector not found) or "General error in reading drive C" and other prompts; (4) Format hard disk, until a certain progress stops, the final error, can not be completed; (5) every system boot Automatically run Scandisk to scan disk errors; (6) When FDISK is executed on the hard disk, it will go back and forth repeatedly to a certain progress; (7) The system cannot be booted through the hard disk when booting, and can be transferred to the hard disk drive after booting with a floppy disk, but cannot Enter, the system can not be successfully transmitted with the SYS command. This situation is most likely caused by a problem with the boot sector of the hard disk. The repair method of the bad track is extremely strict because the internal working environment of the hard disk is extremely strict. Small dust will cause irreparable damage to the inside of the hard disk. Therefore, when the hard disk has bad sectors, we cannot open the hard disk for maintenance. Repair with some tool software to maximize the loss. After we determined that the hard disk has bad sectors, we are not sure whether the bad sectors are logical damage or physical damage. We can only follow the steps from simple to complex. Generally, the logical bad sectors can be solved through simple software repair. However, some physical bad sectors require further repairs to ensure the data security and normal use of the hard disk.

The repair of logical bad sectors In general, the reason why the hard disk generates logical bad sectors is that some genuine software will write information in certain sectors on the hard disk, and other software cannot access this sector. In this case, the hard disk detection tool also mistakes the sector for bad sectors. Generally, this kind of situation does not need to be repaired, but now the software is using less and less encryption. Another situation is caused by improper use. For example, if the hard disk is accidentally restarted when reading data, it may cause logical bad sectors, and even serious physical bad sectors may occur. At this point, we can use the disk tool that comes with Windows to scan the hard disk and automatically fix the error. The specific steps are as follows (using Windows XP as an example), right-click the drive letter in my computer, and then select “Tools → Start Check & and select “ in the pop-up drive properties window. Automatically fix file system errors & rdquo; and & nbsp; scan and restore bad sectors & rdquo;, and then click to start scanning time will vary depending on disk capacity and scanning options. However, it is worth noting that in Windows 98 or even the operating system, the details of each sector cannot be displayed, so usually in this case, we should choose the disk detection tool Scandisk under DOS. Scandisk will detect each sector and will flag bad sectors to prevent the operating system from continuing to access this area. Guaranteed system operation stability and data security. Generally speaking, through the above method, the bad track on the hard disk still exists after the repair is completed, but it is marked, the system will not continue to access, but with the continued use of the hard disk, we may find that the bad sectors of the hard disk may be Diffusion, so this method does not solve the problem fundamentally. A more appropriate method is to back up the hard disk data, and then re-partition and format the hard disk. Generally speaking, if the fault on the hard disk is only a logical bad track, the problem can be completely solved. Of course, it is recommended to use the Scandisk under DOS to detect the hard disk again after re-partitioning and formatting to ensure complete repair of the logical bad sectors of the hard disk. Repair of physical bad sectors If you still find that the hard disk has bad sectors after re-partition formatting according to the above steps, then the hard disk is likely to have physical bad sectors. In fact, in this case, we do not have to rush to the conclusion that the bad sectors of the hard disk can be repaired. We can also use another software to low-level the hard disk, and perform re-partition formatting. Some hard disk bad sectors are also possible in this way. has been solved.

Low-level formatted hard disk There are two ways to low-level, one is through the low-level tool that comes with the BIOS of the motherboard, and the other is low-level by software. The method of the low-level tool that comes with the BIOS of the motherboard will be limited by the motherboard. Some motherboards are not equipped with such a program in the BIOS, and most of the new models of the motherboard do not have this low-level function, so it is recommended to use software. The way to perform low-level formatting of the hard disk. Maxtor has produced a low-level tool low.exe, which can lower the Maxtor hard drive. In fact, this program can be applied to various brands of IDE hard drives of various brands. The operation of the software is quite simple. After booting, press “Y” to enter the software, just select the hard disk that needs low grid, and then select the hard disk that starts the low grid selection. Generally, the process of low grid is relatively long, so you need to wait patiently. In addition, one thing to remind the reader is that if you have other hard disks installed on your machine, it is best to remove the hard disk when running low low-level programs to avoid data loss.

Shielding physical bad sectors If bad sectors are still found after the low grid, then there is almost no physical bad track on this hard disk. Since the physical bad sectors are usually caused by impact or sudden power failure during the use of the hard disk, when the disk rotates at a high speed, the magnetic head may hit the disk, causing damage to the magnetic medium, even if the disk detection software will be bad. The track mark, although the operating system will not continue to access this sector, but the physical bad sectors will usually spread after a period of use, because even after the bad track mark, the hard disk may still access the sectors around the bad track, thus Causes the spread of bad sectors. In order to avoid the spread of bad sectors, we better shield the bad sectors from an unused partition. We shield bad sectors to an unused partition, you can use the software PQ Magic, this software has DOS and Windows version, but since we usually format the hard disk and found that there are still bad areas, and this time there is no Windows system installed, so It is recommended to use the DOS version of PQ Magic (with Chinese version). Before using PQ Magic for partitioning, we must first find the location of the bad track. We can scan the surface of the disk through Scandisk first, and then understand the general location of the bad track of the hard disk before we can determine the partitioning scheme. For example, if the hard disk bad track is about 20% in the C drive, we can use PQ Magic to divide the front of the C drive on the hard disk by roughly 25%-30% of the space as a hidden partition. The specific operation method is as follows (because PQ Magic under DOS is not convenient for screenshots, we will use the version of Windows as an example to demonstrate, the operation is similar), start PQ Magic, click the right mouse button on the icon of the C drive under the graphical interface. Select “Adjust Capacity/Moving> There will be a toolbar that can be pulled. We just need to move the C drive from the starting position of the hard disk. Below the pulled toolbar, there is also the capacity of the free space before the start of the hard disk to the C drive. For example, the capacity of the C drive is 10 GB. We only need to adjust this free space to about 3 GB. At this time, the C drive The capacity is 7GB. In this process, it is recommended to select a slightly larger space for shielding, instead of squandering the lost capacity, so as not to divide the bad sectors into the space of the C drive. After all, the current hard drive is 120GB to 250GB, losing the capacity of several Gs in this area, but it is worthwhile to save a hard drive. After confirming, exit, wait for PQ Magic to move the partition, and then restart, the bad sectors of the hard disk are already in the hidden partition, and the operating system cannot access it. The author used this method to successfully shield the bad sectors of an 80GB hard disk, and the use is still stable. (Note: It is recommended to scan the new partition after the bad track is blocked. It is still recommended to use Scandisk to ensure that the bad track has been completely shielded from the hidden partition. Of course, if you think it is a pity, you can also be in the bad track. Before creating a new partition, of course, the premise is not to divide the bad sectors into new partitions again, but it is not recommended to avoid too many partitions and too fragmented, which will affect disk performance.)

Of course, mask partitions This method is only suitable for the situation where the bad sectors of the hard disk are concentrated. If the bad sectors of the hard disk are scattered, it is troublesome. It is recommended to replace the hard disk to ensure the stability of the system and the security of the data.
