Grinding the knife does not mistake the woodworker - four steps to get the Ghost speed

A friend complained to me, saying that the 40GB hard drive actually used Ghost for "LOCAL → DISK → TO DISK" hard disk clone more than 2 hours. As the saying goes: Sharpening the knife does not mistake the woodworker. In fact, as long as the following preparations are done before Ghost, the running speed of Ghost can be greatly improved.

1. Organize the hard disk

Before starting or restoring the system, arrange the source disk and the target disk to speed up the operation. I recommend Vopt XP or Diskeeper, which are two good defragmentation tools, compared to the system's own program finishing.

If the sneak peek is low, 肳 肳 肳 肳 indows optimization master and other tools to delete the useless files in the system to reduce the size of the image file. These files include: temporary files for Windows, files in the recycle bin, temporary files for IE, and virtual memory files for the system.

Tip: Virtual memory files (such as Win386.swp under Windows 98) can not be deleted in the Windows system environment, you need to delete in DOS.

2. Set the hard disk parameters

At present, most hard disks support UDMA mode and multi-sector data transfer mode. If your hard disk supports this function, please make sure that it is in the BIOS settings. It is set to Enabled. Because the opening or not of these two functions directly affects the overall performance of the hard disk.

This cloning of friends is caused by improper setting of hard disk parameters, so please remind you here that Ghost must set the parameters of the hard disk correctly in order to achieve its optimal performance.

3. Select the new version of Ghost

Because the new version of Ghost optimizes the algorithm, Ghost 7.0 and subsequent versions have much better performance than Ghost 6.0, so it is recommended that friends try to use the latest version. .

4. Don't forget to load Smartdrv.exe before Ghost

Smartdrv.exe is a disk cache under DOS. Friends who have installed Windows 2000 or Windows XP under DOS must not forget It, its role is to simulate a portion of the memory into a disk buffer to speed up file access. The file is located in the C:\\Windows directory. You can also copy it to the boot disk first, then use the boot disk to boot to DOS and run Smartdrv.exe, and finally run Ghost.exe.

After such a setting, the author once again selected 40GB hard disk on the friend machine with Ghost 7.0 to select "LOCAL→DISK→TO DISK". This time it only took 18 minutes. "The importance of "grinding the knife" before.
