GHOST use detailed explanation

Friends who often deal with computers must have reinstalled X times system. Windows98's own instability, various software and hardware failures, and some inexplicable problems make me and other DIY people more often The system nightmare " companion, the waste of time, let us not say that the search for various drivers and application software is not an easy task, and the impact of frequent reinstallation systems on the love machine is destructive. Now, with Ghost (aka & clones) software, our troubles are swept away, and you no longer need to reinstall the system.
Ghost software is another fist software of the famous Symantec company, GHOST is the English abbreviation of "General Hardware Oriented Software Transfer", meaning "for general-purpose hardware transfer software". Below, the author will talk about the use of Ghost software in combination with his own experience:
First, Ghost acquisition and installation. Ghost is basically free software, many motherboard manufacturers are included with the product, we just copy the relevant files from the CD-ROM to the hard disk (be careful not to copy it to the C drive, it should be copied to the D drive or E drive) or floppy disk It can be used, its file is not much and relatively small, the main file Ghost.exe is only 597KB, a boot disk can be installed; can also find this software in the Norton SystemWorks 2000 software package; many CD magazines such as "computer It can also be found in the Supporting CD-ROM and the CD-ROM for Computer Enthusiasts. The version currently used is 5.1, and the latest version is 6.0. As far as the average computer player is concerned, most of them have only one hard disk. To use the Ghost function, at least the hard disk should be divided into two or more areas, and the partition for preparing the image file is preferably slightly larger than the system area.
Second, the main function of Ghost. The basic method of Ghost work is different from other backup software. It operates a partition of the hard disk or the entire hard disk as an object, and can completely copy the object (including the hard disk partition information of the object, the boot area information of the operating system, etc.). And package and compress into an image file (IMAGE), and when necessary, you can restore the image file to the corresponding partition or the corresponding hard disk. Its functions include copying between two hard disks, partitioning of two hard disks, copying of hard disks between two computers, making image files of hard disks, etc. We use more partition backup function. A partition of the hard disk can be compressed and backed up into an image file, and then stored in another partition hard disk or a large-capacity floppy disk. In case of a problem with the original partition, the image file of the spare part can be copied back, and the partition or the partition can be restored. Based on this, we can use Ghost to back up the system and fully recover the system. For schools and Internet cafes, using Ghost software for hard disk copying can quickly and easily achieve rapid system installation and recovery, and it is easier to maintain.
Third, use Ghost to back up the primary partition. Below, the author will introduce the production process of the image file in detail: first start the machine to pure DOS mode with a clean boot disk, and do not load any application, execute the Ghost.exe file, after displaying the Ghost main screen, Select Local→Partition→To Image", the screen displays the hard disk selection screen and the partition selection screen. Please select the hard disk to be backed up as the source disk (if only one hard disk presses the Enter key) and the partition name, then the screen. The screen for storing the image file is displayed. You can select the corresponding target disk and file name. The default extension is GHO, and the attribute is implicit. Next, you can select one of No (no compression), Fast (low compression ratio, faster), High (high compression ratio, slower speed) in the dialog box of the compressed image file, which should be based on your own machine. The configuration determines that after selecting "Yes" in the final confirmation dialog box, the image file will be generated. The C drive of the author is about 1.2G, and it takes only about 13 minutes. In order to avoid accidental deletion of files, most Set the properties of this image file to read-only.
Fourth, the recovery of the primary partition. By making the above image file, you can safely try out a variety of software, modify the various parameters of Windows98, and if you play it, you can quickly restore it to its original state. You can still enter the Ghost main interface according to the above method, select Local→Partition→From Image, select the source disk (that is, the partition of the storage image file such as D:, E:, etc.) and the image file in the screen that appears, in the next dialog. Select the target disk (C:) in the box, you must pay attention to the correct choice, because once the error is determined, all the data will be completely covered, and finally select "Yes", the recovery work will begin, you just have a cup of tea, Wait patiently and wait for you to do it. The recovery time is generally the same as the backup time. After the recovery is over, the software will remind you to restart. At this point, everything is OK.
As the saying goes, " sharpening the knife and not cutting the woodwork", who can guarantee that his computer does not have any problems? Of course, you can find faults in various ways after problems occur, and use various methods to get back to normal, but you will spend dozens of times and time, and sometimes it will not work. However, I would like to remind you that important documents and private files should not be placed on the main partition (because every time you restore the image file, all the original content will be completely covered), and the new software and After the hardware, it is best to re-create the image file, otherwise it is likely to have some inexplicable errors after the recovery.
