As we all know, Windows 8 adds support for virtual media, and can directly open vhd, iso and other files, which is more convenient for users to use. In particular, VHD can be easily mounted and modified in Windows 8, which undoubtedly provides a convenience for storing files. If the path of the folder is deep and the file is often used, why not use VHD to save the file? This will make it easy to find the required file directly in the root directory.

Right-click in the lower left corner of the screen and select “Disk Management” in the Mystery menu. “

In the Disk Management window that pops up, select “Create VHD” under the Actions menu. :

Specify the location, size, format, and type of the virtual disk in the pop-up window.

Format: VHD is an early virtual disk format that supports up to 2T storage. VHDX is a new virtual disk format in Windows 8, which can support up to 64T, but it is not supported in previous versions.

Type: Fixed size allocates the specified size directly to the created disk when creating the disk; dynamic expansion gradually expands the virtual disk file size according to the usage, until the specified size is reached.

After setting, click OK to complete the creation and mounting of the virtual disk.

A virtual disk is the same as a physical disk, and the newly created virtual disk needs to be initialized. In Disk Management, right-click on the left side of the newly created disk and select “Initialize Disk":

In the pop-up window, follow the prompts to complete the initialization.

After formatting, right click on the right side of the virtual disk and select “New Simple Volume”, follow the prompts to specify the size, assign the drive letter, set the volume label, and complete the formatting.
