Speed up 6 tips for defragmenting disk

First, before using the disk defragmentation program, we must first close all open applications, because some programs may need to repeatedly read the data in the hard disk during the operation, so it is possible It will affect the normal operation of the defragmentation program, and even cause the crash when the system is unstable. Therefore, in order to speed up the defragmentation of the shards, it is best to turn off each running program.

Second, if the capacity of the hard disk or the capacity of the partition is relatively small, we will not take too long to defragment them, but for some large hard disks and partitions filled with data, To completely organize it, I am afraid I need a long waiting process. Therefore, when we are sorting these large-capacity hard disks or partitions, we can take the following two measures: First, we can turn off the optimization parameters in the finishing program attached to the Windows9x system itself to speed up the defragmentation, but this method The effect may not be obvious. Alternatively, we can use a dedicated defragmentation tool to organize the hard disk or partition. For example, the Vop99 that I currently use to defragment is very fast. If we use Vop99 to defragment every day, our disk will Optimized in a few minutes, our system can always maintain the best state, I recommend everyone to use Windows's scheduled task program, at least once a week to automatically run Vop99. If you are interested in this software, you can download the trial version of Vop99 at htt://www.goldenbow.com. ;

Third, we have already said before, before the defragmentation work, you must close the screen saver, otherwise the defragmenter will start repeatedly, but every time we need to manually The way to close the application may be cumbersome. Here I will tell you a little trick, that is, to modify the registry to automatically close the screen saver. The specific steps are as follows: First, use the regedit command on the command line. Open the registry window of the win9x system; then in the window, click the following key value with the mouse: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApplets, then look for the Defrag key value in this path, if there is no Defrag key, create a new one, the system default status This key value is available underneath. Create a new primary key called Settings under the Defrag key, then create a primary key called DisableScreenSaver under the newly created primary key, and finally change its default string value to YES. In the future, each time you run the defragmentation of the disk, the screen saver will be automatically blocked. After the operation, it will be restored. This will save you more effort and you don't need to move the mouse back and forth. ;

Fourth, we know that if a large number of fragments exist in the C drive, it may affect the system startup speed. In order to speed up the system startup, we should try to reduce the fragmentation in the C drive. In Win95/98 system, when the physical memory required by the application is insufficient, by default the system will generate a temporary swap file named WIN386.SWP in the C:WINDOWS system directory of the hard disk, which is occupied by the file. The hard disk space is virtualized into memory. Even if we do nothing, just open the computer and the file exists. Obviously, the virtual memory management program frequently reads and writes hard disks and generates a lot of fragmentation, which is the main cause of hard disk fragmentation. Because our users are used to installing Win95/98 systems and applications in the C:WINDOWS and C:Program Files directories respectively. In order to avoid the large number of fragments generated by the temporary swap file frequently reading and writing in the C area, we can specify the temporary swap file to be generated in other partitions. The specific steps are as follows: first open the "Control Panel" window, and then double-click with the mouse in the window. "System" icon, in the pop-up dialog box, click "Performance Virtual Memory", select the "User-specified virtual memory settings" option, and then select D: from the "Hard Disk" option (Note: D area free space can not be less than 100MB ), and finally click the "OK" button. Restart the system, we will find that the WIN386.SWP temporary swap file has been generated in the root directory of the D area, which means that the temporary swap file will only generate a large number of fragments in the D area, thus speeding up the system startup.

5. When using IE to surf the Internet, in order to spend less money to access more information, our users often take offline browsing skills to access information. And every time I go online, IE will leave a lot of temporary files in the C:WINDOWSTemporary Internet Files directory. If we surf the Internet frequently, IE may generate a lot of temporary files in this directory. Frequent reading and writing of hard disks generates a large amount of fragmentation, which affects the speed of information access. In order to prevent the browser from generating a lot of fragmentation when reading and writing these temporary files, we can assign the temporary directory to other partitions. The specific operation process is as follows: First, create a temporary file storage directory in the D partition, and then use the mouse to open the "Control Panel" window, then double-click "Internet Options" in the window, and click "In the pop-up dialog box" Set the move folder, and finally select the directory specified in the D partition. After this setting, a large number of temporary files generated by IE will only be fragmented on the D area.

Sixth, we will find in the actual use process, if the remaining space of the hard disk is too small, the speed of running the application will be slower, and disk defragmentation is also difficult. Therefore, it is better to keep more than 15% of available space for relatively small disk partitions; for larger disk partitions, it is better to keep more than 5% of available space; for boot partitions, at least 40MB of available space. In addition, in the process of using the computer, we should release the wasted disk space in time, such as emptying the recycle bin, deleting the history after surfing the Internet, and deleting the temporary folders and files.
