Win8.1 Update2, see

in August

Computer store news: Microsoft just released the first Win8.1 major update Win8.1 Update last week, but obviously the second update of Windows 8.1 is coming soon.

ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley said that Win8.1 Update2 will be released in August. This update is also part of Microsoft's efforts to accelerate its flagship system cycle.

It is unclear whether Windows 8.1 Update2 will bring back the modified start menu, but it looks like a big possibility. According to recent news, the start menu will return at the end of this year. Foley said that Win8.1 Update2 will not include the ability to run Modern applications on the desktop window. Microsoft demonstrated this feature on BUILD2014 this month. This feature is expected to appear in Win9 released in early 2015.

In addition, Foley said that Microsoft is still working hard to release a unified Windows SKU that can run on both smartphones and tablets. This new Windows SKU won't include the desktop, and it's impossible to be the Windows RT we know. ARM-powered devices will be the primary target of this Windows SKU.
