8 Windows 8 Personalization Tips

The Windows 8 Customer Preview is available for free download. Fortunately, users can customize this system to their liking, especially if you don't really like the new Metro interface. Below, the author will introduce you to 8 Windows 8 customer preview personalized tips.

Recovery Start Button

The Windows 8 Customer Preview removes the familiar start button. In fact, the start button function still exists and the user just can't see it. In Windows 8 desktop mode, the user hovered over the bottom left corner and the Metro mode thumbnail appears. Click on the thumbnail to open Metro mode.

If you want to continue using the Start button, you can install it. Windows custom software developer Stardock has released a free custom tool, Start8, which helps users "restore" the start button.

Start Menu

Start8 can also customize the application panel to work and look similar to the old start menu interface.

Changing the pane size

Under the Metro interface, the application pane icon or widget window displays real-time updates, such as breaking news, weather, and more. To avoid scrolling the Metro to start the panel to the right, the user can set all of the rectangular panes to a square. To do this, the user can right click on the pane and select “smaller”.

If the pane is medium in size, you can also keep its rectangular display.

Uninstalling Extra Metro Apps

Users can right-click on the pane and select “Uninstall” or < remove the ” option from the Start Panel to manage the Metro Start Panel Applications.

Removing the Ribbon Interface

Office 2007 first introduced the Ribbon user interface, but users are mixed. Over time, Microsoft integrated the Ribbon interface into other applications. Today, in the Windows 8 Customer Preview, the Windows Explorer user interface uses the Ribbon interface.

Right-click on the Ribbon interface and the user can select "Minimize the Ribbon Interface". If you don't like this interface, you can remove it completely from Windows Explorer using the free tool Ribbon Disabler.

Sync Settings

Since Windows 8 will support tablet devices, it will need to synchronize applications, browsers and system parameters. If you use Windows 8, you can use to sync content and close any content that doesn't need to be synced.

At the top right or bottom right of the screen, the user can see a gear icon, select “More PC Settings”, and then set the “Sync” function.

Activating SkyDrive

SkyDrive is Microsoft's cloud storage service, and the SkyStart app is available in Metro. It allows users to upload files to the cloud and then download cloud files to the local. Through the browser, users can get their own SkyDrive files on any computer.

Microsoft offers 25GB of SkyDrive storage for free. Users only need to log in to their Windows Live or Hotmail account to use the SkyDrive service.

Starting Desktop Mode

By default, the Windows 8 Customer Preview launches with the Metro Starter Edition. Of course, users can also let Windows 8 launch traditional desktops directly. However, this setup process is very complicated.
