Making worry-free Ghost files for diskless Windows 2003

Many schools have upgraded the Windows 2000 diskless terminal network system to Windows 2003 two years ago. In addition to the system, generally install Office, WPS, Photoshop and other commonly used software to the C:\\Program file directory, C area may suddenly increase to 2GB or so. Making a system image and burning a recovery disc is the most effective way to prevent it from happening, but if the system image is over 700MB, you won't be able to burn it on a single disc. This article is intended to illustrate how to effectively reduce the system partition volume before burning.

First, delete the C file root directory page file hiberfil. When sys
is sleeping, the contents of the memory will be saved to the hard disk. The file is named hiberfil.sys, which is usually several hundred megabytes. Go to the "Control Panel → Power Options → Hibernate" option, uncheck "Enable Power", the amount of space saved is the virtual memory capacity you set.

Second, delete the file in the C:\\Windows\\System32\\Dllcache directory
Enter sfc.exe /purgecache at the command prompt (note: "sfc.exe" and "/" There is a space between them), which can reduce the system by about 300MB.

Third, mobile "virtual memory"
By default, "virtual memory" is automatically managed by the system, "virtual memory" is stored in the system partition. In fact, we can store virtual memory outside of Area C. Select the "My Computer → System Properties → Advanced" tab, click the [Settings] button in the "Performance" column, select the "Advanced" tab; click the [Change] button in the "Virtual Memory" column, select the system partition, Then select the "No paging file" item; click the [Settings] button and select "Yes" in the pop-up window, then select a non-system partition; select "Custom Size", enter the data such as 256MB and click [Settings], then click [OK], then restart your computer.

Fourth, delete the hardware driver backup
Windows 2003 supports more hardware devices, most hardware will automatically install the corresponding driver when the system is installed, the hardware driver backup file driver.cab Stored in the "Windows\\DriverCache\\i386" directory of the system partition, after the hardware installation is completed, the file basically loses its value, we can delete or transfer it to other partitions, which can release about 70MB space.

5. Delete "temporary files"
Enter C:\\Windows\\Temp and delete all the files. There may be some file system prompts in the process of deletion that cannot be deleted. We can use the Windows 989 boot disk to boot the system and then delete it.

Second, delete help files
If you are familiar with the system, or rarely use the system's help files, you can delete or transfer the files under C:\\Windows\\htlp. Can release about 40MB of space.

Seven, delete unnecessary font files
directly into C:\\Windwos\\Font, delete the font files that can be deleted. Don't worry about deleting the wrong file. If you can't delete it, the system will prompt you to delete it.

Finally, use Ghost 8.0 to select the highest compression mode "hight" to make the image. If the system partition is around 1.4GB, the image file will generally not be larger than 700MB, you can directly burn to a CD. in. If the partition capacity is too large due to the installation of common software, the mirror can be created by the Ghost 8.0 volume compression method. The key to volume compression is to add the necessary parameters after the Ghost startup command. The format of the command is: ghost -split=650. The value of the 650 is the size of the image file. The value is in the range of 0 to 2048. The specific method is basically the same as the conventional production image, except that if the image is larger than 650MB, there are several files after the final production, we can burn it with multiple discs. When recovering, follow the prompts to insert the appropriate disc.
