Windows XP SP2 all kinds of stumbling blocks

Some friends after installing Windows SP2, found that the webpage pictures are not displayed properly when the Internet is online, the website verification code is invisible, the BT software download speed is slowed down, the instant communication software is unreachable, and so on. The ground is exposed. The reason for this problem is that the SP2 starting point is too high, too much changes to the system; on the other hand, because we are still not familiar with the new thing SP2. Now let us approach SP2 again, focus on analyzing some common system failures that SP2 is likely to cause, and prescribing the right medicine to prevent SP2 from becoming a stumbling block to our system.

This failure phenomenon is that after installing SP2, McAfee VirusScan cannot be upgraded online.

Analysis of the cause of this failure can be known from the perspective of system security, SP2 management of various components is very strict, set permissions are low, McAfee VirusScan is one of them. Because it has insufficient permissions, it will not be able to upgrade online.

The response to this "stumblestone" is to click on the "Start" "Start”“Settings"“Control Panel”“Administrative Tools”“Component Services” Open the “Component Services” window. Expand the "Console root" ”“Component Services”"Computer”“My Computer"“DOCM Configuration""FrameworkService” option, right click on it, bring up the Properties window . Click the “Security” tab and click the “Customize” radio button in the “Startup and Activation Permissions” section. Then click the “Edit” button, in the pop-up "Start Permissions" dialog box, click the "Add" button to add your login account and "System" account, and "Allow" It has the "Local Startup", "Local Activation" permission, as shown in Figure 1, click the "OK" button.

The phenomenon of this failure is that in the process of browsing the webpage with IE browser, when opening some HTML webpages containing images, an ActiveX error message pops up, and the image cannot be displayed normally.

The reason is to prevent the computer from being attacked maliciously. By default, SP2 disables ActiveX, java and other controls, which causes the webpage containing ActiveX, java and other controls to be unable to browse properly, and the image cannot be displayed normally. . For this problem, you can use the following method:

Open the Notepad program and enter the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 (empty line)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\ Microsoft\\InternetExplorer\\Main\\Feature-Control\\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN]

@=""

"iexplore.exe"=dword:00000000

"explorer. Exe"=dword:00000000

It should be noted that when the above two key values are "1", it is disabled, and when it is ""0”, it is to disable ActiveX, java and other controls. After the entry is completed, save as “ShowPicture.reg”, the file name can be used, the extension must be REG, double-click to import into the registry.

Before installing SP2, we can adjust the security level of the Internet domain at will, but after installing SP2, you will find that the security level of the Internet is locked to the intermediate level. When we try to adjust, it will pop up a & nbsp; Error & rdquo; warning box, as shown in Figure 2, we can no longer adjust the security level according to the actual needs of each person.

This problem is mainly because SP2 locks the security level of the Internet for security reasons. By default, users are not allowed to adjust.

In the face of this problem, you can take the following method: Click “Start” and “Run”, enter “ldreg; . Expand the following branch:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\

InternetSettings\\Zones\\3], find the Dword named "MinLevel" in the window on the right. Value and double-click it, set its value data in the pop-up edit dialog box to “10000 & rdquo; (hexadecimal) and then click the "OK" button and close the Registry Editor. Press F5 to refresh it, and try again now to see if the security level can be adjusted freely.

This kind of failure usually shows that after installing SP2, it often has compatibility problems with common software such as Office XP, and the program is inexplicable.

The main cause of this problem is the DEP data execution prevention technology. The DEP (Date Execution Prevention) technology is mainly designed to effectively avoid buffer overflow problems. It can effectively prevent viruses or malicious programs from being affected by computers. Protected memory locations store harmful code. DEP marks certain commonly used memory locations as "unexecutable" so that viruses or malicious code have no place to live, but it also causes some programs to fail.
