Analyze the management of Windows operating system

Many individual users now use Windows XP, but do you know? There are a series of tools in the Windows operating system. Many of these tools are used to maintain the system. In this article, I will introduce how to use these tools. At the same time, the author will start from four aspects of system maintenance, management performance, system security and disk space management to introduce how to more effectively and better maintain our Windows system.

The first part, the maintenance of the operating system

First, the automatic implementation of Windows system updates

For users using Windows XP system, Microsoft provides an automatic update service. Make sure your operating system is automatically updated at any time. Windows XP can query Windows Update for the latest update service when the system logs in and connect to the Internet, and determine the update project for the local computer. Then, when you use the operating system, "automatic update" will be patched in the background. Download to your local hard drive.

To set the "automatic update" feature to on or off, follow these steps:

1. Click ---> Start-- >Control Panel--> Automatic Update.

Note: There is also a method here, you can right click on "My Computer" Select "Properties", or you can set the "automatic update" function.

2. On the "Automatic Updates" tab, click on the setting you want (Figure 1).

Note: If you think that you will install the update package downloaded from the Windows Update website manually, then you can choose to close "automatic update" Features.

Second, the event log file to repair damage

Event Viewer is one of the management tools included in the Windows Management Console, it is used on your computer for related programs, security features and The log information generated by system events is maintained. You can use the Event Viewer to browse and manage event logs, collect information about software and hardware failures, or monitor Windows security events.

3. Remove the corrupted log files from the %SystemRoot%\\System32\\Config directory (or other locations) -- Appevent.evt, Secevent.evt, and/or Sysevent.evt. All of your existing event data will be lost, but new log files will be created and restarted to collect new event data when the event log service is restarted.

4. Re-enable the event log service and start it.

5. If the event log service does not start successfully, restart Windows XP.

You will not be able to delete or rename log files while the event log service is running.

III. Protecting files during power outages

If a power outage occurs while the computer is in a waiting state, all information in the memory will be lost. If you do not save the document at this time, you will lose the edited content. However, with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), you can prevent data loss during power outages.

Although the power outage may continue until the UPS battery is exhausted, you can prevent data loss from happening; even if your computer happens to be in a wait state and you happen to be no longer near the power outage, The edited data information will still not be lost. To implement the above ideas, please make the following settings in the "Power Management Options":

Activate the sleep function. (Click the -->>Start-->Control Panel--> Power Options and select "Enable Hibernate" on the "Hibernate" tab.

Figure 2

Set the time required for the computer to wait before switching the system to sleep. The time set here should not exceed the battery runtime. (On the "Power Scheme" tab, set Set the system sleep wait time under "Battery Operation Status".)
