Retrieve lost Word files

Click the Open button and select the All Files option in the File Type box. In the folder list, double-click the folder that contains the open backup file. Click the "View" button. In the "Name" column, the file name is displayed as "XX Backup", and in the "Type" box, the file type is displayed as "Microsoft Word Backup File". Find the file and double click. Then open the file. (The premise of finding a file that is lost is that it must be set to "reserve backup" in the word, and the file has been reserved for backup.)

The way to enable the backup is to save from the options menu of the Tools menu. In the tab, check Keep backup. Each time the document is saved, the previous version of the document is copied as a backup copy. Each new backup copy replaces the previous backup copy. Word saves the backup copy (with a .WBK as the file extension) in the same folder as the original document. If you select the Keep backups check box, Word automatically clears the Allow fast saves check box because Word can only create backup copies when performing a full save.
