IE6.0 security skills concentration camp

Today, surfing the Internet has become an indispensable part of our lives, but the security of surfing the Internet has become a matter of high concern to cybersecurity experts to the civilian population. In fact, for ordinary users, we don't care about "there are serious security vulnerabilities in XX programs..." and how to remedy them from a technical point of view. Although we should know what kind of damage this vulnerability will cause us, we should know more about how to do it, how to make some simple settings to avoid as much as possible, and to surf the Internet safely.

Surfing is inseparable from the browser, but is it safe to browse the web? Have you seen such a report: "Beware, browsing the web hard disk will be shared!" "You can format the hard disk web page code" and so on, these are not alarmist, these are technically feasible. Here I just want to remind everyone to pay attention to the security issues when browsing the web.

There are not hundreds of contends in the current browser market, but there are dozens of them, which can be said to have their own characteristics. Microsoft's next-generation browser, IE 6.0, is widely welcomed for its open standards and enhanced management of cookies. It is based on IE 5.5 and is fully compatible with the Windows 98/Me/2000 operating system, and Microsoft has adopted the privacy standard P3P. In theory, it is safer to access web pages. If the page you are visiting does not meet the specified minimum security requirements, IE 6.0 will issue a warning on the taskbar.
Let's take a look at the security use and setup skills of IE 6.0.

1. Tips for managing cookies

In IE 6.0, open the "Internet Properties" of IE's "Tools" menu, specifically adding the "Privacy" tab to manage cookies.

The cookie policy of IE 6.0 can be set to six levels from "block all cookies", "high", "medium high", "medium", "low", "accept all cookies" (the default level is "Medium"), corresponding to the strict to loose cookie strategy, allows us to easily set up as needed. For some specific websites, click "Edit" in Figure 1, you can also set it to "can always or never use cookies."

With the Cookie Policy of IE 6.0, you can personally set the cookie rules when browsing web pages, better protect your information, and increase the security of using IE. For example, at the default level of "medium", IE allows websites to place cookies on your computer, but rejects third-party operations, such as advertisers that lack a P3P security protocol. Therefore, the security tag option makes it easy to control the security level.

2, disable or restrict the use of Java, Java applet scripts, ActiveX controls and plugins

Because the Internet (such as browsing web pages and in the chat room) often use Java, JavaApplet, Scripts written by ActiveX that may get your user ID, IP address, and even passwords, and even install certain programs or other operations on your machine. Therefore, restrictions should be placed on the use of Java, Java applet scripts, ActiveX controls, and plugins.

Turn on Custom Levels in the Security tab of the Internet Properties window in the IE Tools menu to make settings. Here you can set "ActiveX Controls and Plugins", "Java", "Script", "Download", "User Authentication" and other security options. For some unsafe or less secure controls or plugins and downloads, you should disable, limit, or at least prompt.

3, adjust the auto-complete function settings

By default, the user after using the web address, form, form username and password for the first time (if you agree to save the password), under When you want to enter the same web page and enter a password again, you only need to enter the beginning part, and the latter will be completed automatically, which brings convenience to the user, but also brings security problems.

This problem can be solved by adjusting the settings of the "AutoComplete" function. You can choose to use the AutoComplete feature only for web addresses, forms, and passwords, or you can use this feature only in certain places, and you can clear the history of any item.

The specific setting method is as follows:

(1) On the "Tools" menu of Internet Explorer, click "Internet Options".

(2) Click the "Content" tab.

(3) In the "Personal Information" area, click "AutoComplete".

(4) Select the check box for the "AutoComplete" option you want to use.

To be safe, to prevent leaking some of your information, you should periodically clear the history. In this case, just click the "Clear Form" and "Clear Password" buttons in step 4.
4, often clear the browsed URL (URL)

Click on the drop-down menu in the address bar, none of the visited sites have been missed. I don't want to let others know which sites I have visited, what should I do? Right-click on the IE icon on the desktop, open "Tools→Internt Properties", and under the "General" tab, click the "Clear History" button in the History area. At this time, the system will pop up a warning "Do you really want Windows to delete the history of visited websites?", select "Yes".

If you only want to clear some records, click the "History" button on the browser toolbar, in the address history of the right column, use the right mouse button to select a desired address or its next page. , select "Delete." You can also use the method of editing the registry to achieve the purpose, in the registry editor, find HKEY\\CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\TypedURLs, delete the primary key in the right column and don't want to let it appear again, remember to Let urlx (x stands for sequence number) be arranged in natural order.

5, clear the visited web page

In order to speed up browsing, IE will automatically save the webpage you have viewed in the cache folder C:\\Windows\\Temporary Internet Files. When you are sure that the pages you have viewed are no longer needed, select all the pages in the folder and delete them. Or open the "Tools → Internt Properties" of IE, click the "Delete Files" button of the "Temporary Internet Files" item under the "General" tab, a warning will pop up, select "Delete all offline content", click "OK" The button is fine.

This method is not quite thorough and will leave a few cookies in the folder. In IE 6.0, there is also a "Delete Cookies" button next to the "Delete Files" button, which makes it easy to delete legacy cookies.

The above is just a few tips on how to use IE 6.0 safely. In fact, if you want to "free the Internet, safe surfing", you should pay attention to a lot of problems, such as: install personal firewall and virus firewall Update the anti-virus software, use safe and reasonable passwords, download and run unknown software, and finally, ban the malicious websites. Only by developing good online habits can we guarantee "prevention of blackness".
