Windows 7 built-in compatibility solution to understand

Whenever Microsoft introduced a new generation of operating systems, in addition to concerns about performance, functionality, stability, security, etc., more is still controversial compatibility. We know that changes in the system architecture will cause software or drivers on the original system platform to fail to work properly on a new generation of operating systems, and even more so, hardware will not be supported by the new system.

In the face of such problems, Microsoft is also a dilemma, but we can see that Microsoft is working to solve such problems. In addition to the built-in compatibility solution tools in the operating system, application virtualization solutions and companion products have been introduced to completely and effectively resolve compatibility issues. Of course, the protagonist to introduce today is the Troubleshoot Compatibility built into Windows 7 M3.

Discovery - Explore! At first gOxiA did not know that this feature was built into Windows 7 M3. When the support software was being installed for the X60, it was rejected. As shown in the figure below, I am prompted that the program does not support the current operating system.

I wanted to give up, but because the Thinkpad's keyboard function key program - HotKey can not be used, it would affect the use! After some tossing and found the selected installer, right click on the mouse and there is a "Troubleshoot Compatibility" in the list - compatibility troubleshooting!

Start the Compatibility Troubleshooting Wizard and follow the prompts. Because the program can be installed normally under Vista, from the error message, the installer found that the version is not in its own compatibility list when detecting the system version, thus interrupting the installation operation. To do this, check “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now”.

Select the operating system that was previously installed in the list, select "Windows Vista" for this purpose, and click " Next”".

Haha! The installer is executed normally, and Next completes the installation.

After that, Troubleshoot Compatibility performs settings saving to solve the compatibility problem of the program! Finally, to complete the troubleshooting, here we can "Close the troubleshooter", or to view the specific information, click "Explore additional options".

Troubleshoot Compatibility will automatically navigate to “Troubleshooting Home', where we can troubleshoot and diagnose multiple issues. Click on “View troubleshooting history” in the left navigation bar to view the previous specific diagnostic information.

In the same way, I also implemented Troubleshoot Compatibility for several other programs that could not be installed. In addition to this, if the existing application is not working, you can use this function to troubleshoot the diagnosis. However, unfortunately, after the compatibility of the EasyEject Utility and the Keyboard Customizer Utility that comes with Thinkpad, the problem of stopping the corresponding and automatically closing the program will occur at runtime. I am afraid that there are still further troubleshooting reasons. The program has little impact and is temporarily skipped!
