U disk encryption using the built-in function in Win 7

Small U disk is the preferred mobile storage device for many friends, but because of its small size, the U disk is also very easy to lose, and important data and information stored in it are likely to be leaked. Although the use of encryption software can play a protective role, it is more troublesome. This problem has also plagued Xiaobian for a long time. After starting to use Windows 7, I found that a function that comes with Win 7 can encrypt our U disk.

The BitLocker security feature is already available on the Vista system, while the Windows 7 BitLocker feature is more powerful. It does not require users to modify the group policy and other complicated settings. Just log in to Windows 7 as an administrator. The system is ready to use. After inserting the USB flash drive, right click on the USB flash drive in "Computer" and select "Enable BitLocker" in the pop-up menu.

This will pop up a "BitLocker Drive Encryption" wizard, choose the way to unlock the drive as needed, Xiaobian suggested that you choose "Use password to unlock the drive". After entering the password twice in succession (the password is at least 8 characters), click "Next".

In order to prevent the password from being forgotten, BitLocker will save a recovery key to another drive or print it. If you choose to save the key, you will get a file name "BitLocker Recovery Key** *.txt" text file.

Click "Start Encryption" and BitLocker will start encrypting your U disk. The time required for this process will be determined by the capacity of the encrypted U disk and the size of the storage file.

After the encryption is complete, you can see that our U disk has been "locked" by going back to the drive list!

After inserting the USB flash drive into the computer, a "BitLocker Drive Encryption" prompt box will pop up first. The USB flash drive can be used normally only after the password is correctly entered.

When you use BitLocker to encrypt a USB flash drive into a computer with XP system, you can also receive BitLocker encryption protection. Unlike Win 7, you can open the USB flash drive first under XP. However, the files inside need to be correctly entered to open the password in the "BitLocker To Go Reader" mode, so friends who do not have Win 7 do not have to worry about not being able to use the encrypted USB flash drive.
