Game console that can be "expanded"

The game console will continue to evolve over time, which is nothing new, but the concept of a new patent submitted by Microsoft seems very interesting. In the newly applied patent, Microsoft describes it as such, ensuring the quality of multimedia applications while allowing platform resources, especially hardware resources, to increase or decrease over time.

Microsoft said in the patent that this host will have its own core components and basic configuration that can be upgraded in the future. In addition, the patent application document confirms the configuration in which the Xbox 720 was exposed before, such as multiple CPUs and GPUs. The combination of a single CPU and GPU will be a low-power solution for core system management, while the other combination is rendering games.

Interestingly, one of the patent maps shows that the host's third CPU and GPU combination can share the load with the first two systems. The patent will cover a variety of different products, but the scalability of the game console "over time" proves that Microsoft's goal is to allow users or partners to make additional updates on the product themselves. Although there are rumors that Microsoft will use AMD chips in the Xbox 720, Microsoft's adoption of this traditional mode will allow the game console to move closer to the PC.
