Windows 10 upgrade comprehensive "prevent"

user's conservative and Microsoft's radical, resulting in Windows
10 upgrade or not. Microsoft has tried its best to let more users upgrade, and those who are old-fashioned and have special thoughts regard Microsoft's upgrade icons and upgrade pushes as thorns in the eyes and in the flesh. They want to be reinvented, and the patterns they deal with are constantly being refurbished.

1. Prevent low-level upgrades of Windows 10

Do not upgrade Windows 10 with a lot of troubles: endless upgrade reminders; automatic download of upgrade files takes up network bandwidth and disk space; Unpredictable automatic installation and push. Therefore, the user who is still using the lower version, looking at the upgrade icon on the taskbar can not be removed, I feel that I am not practical, I am afraid that I accidentally click the wrong button to activate the upgrade process.

Uninstalling patches to prevent upgrades

The upgrade prompts in the old system are derived from the installation of an upgrade patch for KB3035583. Therefore, I hope that it will be blocked by uninstalling this patch.

In the case of using Windows 8.1, go to “Control Panel →System and Security→Windows Update →Check Update History", click “View Installed Updates”. In the upper right corner search box, type “KB3035583” search, right click and select Uninstall the patch (Figure 1).

However, this method has drawbacks: if the automatic update function is enabled after uninstalling the update, the system will repeatedly detect and push the update, causing the mask to fail. Therefore, if you want to use this method, you need to enable the manual update option. If Windows prompts you to install the KB3035583 update later, you can ignore it.

Modify the registry mask notification

The above method is cumbersome. By modifying the registry method, it is easier to block the notification of getting the upgrade notification.

Open the Registry Editor and navigate to <;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Gwx”. If you don't see the Gwx item, just right click and create it. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) entry called DisableGwx in the right window and set its value data to 1 (Figure 2). After the above operation, you can completely block “ get Windows10” upgrade notification.

The modification of the registry is also complicated, and many users are afraid of the registry. For security reasons, you can use one "Get Windows10" Removal Tool gadget to solve with one click. After running the software, simply click on the Remove "Get Windows10" Icon button to completely remove the upgrade icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar.

2. Prevent Windows 10 from autonomous upgrades

Even if you have upgraded to Windows 10, due to frequent system upgrades and immature patches, you may suffer from blue screens during use. In order to avoid system instability caused by automatic upgrades, Windows 10 can be automatically updated as needed.

It’s easier to modify the method with Group Policy. Open the Windows 10 Local Group Policy Editor, and then navigate to “Computer Configuration & Rarr; Administrative Templates & Rarr; Windows Components & Rarr; Windows Updates, find "Automatic Updates" in the right window, double-click to open &ldquo ; Configure automatic update & rdquo; window (Figure 3). Check the “Enabled” checkbox, then select “2 - Notification download and notify installation > (Figure 4) in the Configure automatic update option below.

Small Tips:

This method is available for Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education.

Tip:

If you set the status of this policy to “Disabled, you must download and manually install any available updates in the Windows Update. In this case, you can use the system search function to search for and get Windows updates.

For Windows 10 Home Edition users, the above method is not available because there is no Group Policy setting. At this time, you can use the method of stopping the service to solve the problem. Open the Service Management window via Task Manager, find the Windows Update service and right click and select “Stop & rdquo; (Figure 5). After the service is stopped, the system does not actively download and install updates. If you encounter important updates, you need to manually open the service and go to the Windows Update window to download and install. Only in this way can we ensure that there are no major vulnerabilities in the system.

Small Tips:

Microsoft added the "Automatic Update Application" switch app for Windows 10 Home Edition in the App Store to make up for the automatic update control of Windows 10 Home Edition. Insufficient permissions.

For those who prefer to use third-party tools, you can also use Windows Update MiniTool to manually control the automatic update of Windows 10. You can turn off the system update service by checking the "Offline mode" in the lower right corner of the software. In addition, by selecting the patch operation type on the left side of the software window, it is convenient to control the download, installation, update, and uninstallation of the patch from the right window (Figure 6). In addition, another tool, Win Updates Disabler, can be used. In the Disable tab, the software disables the Disable Windows updates option by default (disables system updates). Once selected, click the Apply Now button to reboot the system (Figure 7). When you need to re-enable system updates, switch to the Enable tab, check Enable Windows updates and click the Apply Now button.
