8.1 welcomes "extra large" DPI scaling improvements

In a new blog post, Microsoft finally announced some improvements in Windows 8.1 for DPI scaling. The Extreme Windows blog notes that Windows 8.1 will offer a new "Extra Large" option to allow the display to scale text and other items by 200%.


The new "Oversized" scaling option. Win8 can only scale up to 150%.


Different DPI display devices can also set the zoom ratio separately.


Also, if you have multiple PC monitors on your desktop, and each display device has a different DPI. In this case, Windows 8.1 can also use its own per-display DIP scaling level.

Windows 8 application developers can also use Microsoft's APIs to have their apps display and use the "Extra Size" option on high DPI screens.
