Windows RT is jailbroken to run desktop programs

Beijing time on January 7th news, according to foreign media reports, recently security researchers claimed that the Windows RT operating system has been successfully jailbroken, allowing desktop applications such as Surface Tablet.

The security researcher named clrokr disclosed in his blog the principle of jailbreaking Windows RT, which is related to a vulnerability in Windows RT system memory settings. Using this vulnerability, users can run unsigned desktop programs compiled for ARM architecture on Windows RT. However, even after jailbreak, desktop programs based on the X86 architecture still cannot run in the RT system.

Therefore, the actual use of this jailbreak is not too large, but it is foreseeable that hackers and third-party developers may develop some third-party desktop applications for the post-japby RT system in the future.

However, it should be pointed out that Microsoft has restricted the operation of ARM architecture desktop applications in RT tablets in order to extend the battery life of the tablet. After the jailbreak, the RT plate's battery life may be reduced.
