Win8's chaser

Computer store news:

For the traditional PC market leader Microsoft, the intensive release of Windows8 operating system, Surface tablet in the past month, will largely determine Whether it can play the mobile Internet in the future.

In fact, whether it is Windows 8, or Surface, the outside world is mixed. Some people think that Windows 8's dual system design takes into account entertainment and business, and some people question that it over-consumes the user habits that Microsoft has accumulated over the past few decades; some people have questioned that there are too few applications on the Surface, and there is a suspicion of rushing with partners. Some people are expecting that it will one day be able to make up the shortcomings of the Apple iPad on "Productivity".

On November 29th, the self-proclaimed "almost all the time is on a business trip", Microsoft International Business President Jean · Philip & middot; Goodman (Jean-Philippe Courtois, hereinafter referred to as Goodwin) When I came to Guangzhou, I visited the government and enterprise customers and researched the retail market. I also accepted an exclusive interview with this reporter.

Windows 8 certified devices over 1000

"21st Century": Windows 8 has sold 40 million licenses since its release, which is a satisfactory sales ?

Goodyear: This is an exciting number. With the release of Win8, Microsoft has opened a new era of transforming itself from a software company to a cloud service and device provider.

Windows 8 is the way we re-imagine Windows from the user interface all the way to the chipset. More than 1,000 certified Windows 8 devices are available now, including laptops, ultrabooks, all-in-ones, tablets, and dual-purpose computers. The essence of Windows 8 is to provide a work and entertainment experience, not only can use the touch function, but also use the mouse, keyboard, and even the stylus.

I just saw Surface in Suning, a product that shows Microsoft's fast, smooth, uncompromising Windows 8 experience.

"21st Century": How is the sales performance of Surface?

Goodwin: No data has been disclosed yet, and no data is available on Surface.

"21st Century": Some PC makers complain that Microsoft has entered the PC hardware market through Surface. Why is Microsoft doing this? Will you compete with your partners?

Goodwin: Many OEMs are still very good friends. They are all launching some great equipment. In fact, we have more than 1000 certified devices, and they are still growing. Surface is a good example of the Windows 8 experience.

"21st Century": Especially in the mobile market, Apple and Android have occupied most of the market. How many opportunities do you think Windows Phone has?

Goodwin: Windows Phone 8 gives businesses and consumers the same experience as PCs and tablets on their phones. People value and like this. You can get the benefits of Microsoft Office, the same user interface, and hundreds of thousands of other applications on Windows Phone. We are working with companies like HTC, Nokia, Samsung, etc. Windows Phone is actually gaining new market share every week. We are indeed latecomers, but we are growing.

"21st Century": Do you develop your own Windows Phone hardware like Surface?

Goodwin: OEMs provide mobile hardware, including HTC, Samsung and more.

"21st Century": How does Microsoft view its partnership with Nokia, especially if Nokia's performance is not as expected? Will Microsoft acquire Nokia?

Goodwin: Microsoft has established an in-depth partnership with Nokia. Nokia is still a very strong leader in the mobile space, not only because of the number of mobile phones they sell, but also because of their global operations. In many countries, such as China and India, Nokia is very well known and has a wide range of partners and retail stores. And distribution channels. Nokia has developed some extraordinary mobile phones. In fact, the media recently reported the success of the latest Lumia 920 in the US and Europe, which has gained market share and is now one of the best-selling smartphones in the world.

Microsoft Cloud Computing Steps

"21st Century": How will Microsoft integrate Internet business after Messenger fades out next year?

Goodwin: We recently announced that we will integrate Messenger into Skype worldwide. This is the global strategy of Microsoft Skype. In China, we will continue to operate Messenger, and we have integrated our partner resources into Messenger.

"21st Century": Microsoft recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai Municipal Government on the launch of a public cloud in China. Can you introduce your cloud computing strategy, is Microsoft considering setting up a joint venture with a Chinese partner?

Goodwin: In their conversations with Chinese customers, they are very interested in finding small solutions. For example, how to manage transportation in Guangzhou and Guangdong provinces, there are millions of people on the highway, which is an exciting cloud solution. I can cite countless examples of how Microsoft Cloud can help Chinese customers increase productivity and enhance business innovation. This is why we decided to obtain a license issued by the Chinese government and cooperate with the Shanghai Municipal Government. We will launch Office 365 and Windows Azure services in China with 21Vianet.

"21st Century": What are the next steps in Microsoft's cloud computing in China and around the world?

Goodwin: The next step is to launch these services in China. The exact time has not yet been determined, but it should be in the coming months.

Microsoft has been investing in China for the past 20 years. We hope to achieve a win-win situation with China and hope to be closer to Chinese customers. Therefore, we have expanded in 15 provinces and cities in China. We also want to innovate in China, including our Office 365 and Windows Azure cloud business models are unique —— no other company can do it, Google can't, other companies can't.

From a global perspective, Microsoft has changed the way we develop software through cloud computing, and we innovate and update our cloud services every few weeks. Every three months, we have a major upgrade to Office 365 and Windows Azure. Every year, we make major changes to the architecture of our services. This is very different from the traditional software world. In the past, we only launched a new version of Office every few years, and users had to wait a few years. For Office 365, users get new features every few weeks. This service runs around the clock, ensuring 99.9% reliability.
