Microsoft redesigned Win8's disk check and introduced four health models

Computer Shop News How many times does your machine boot up thanks to the utility of disk check (chkdsk)? Now, Microsoft is introducing the chkdsk improvements and new health models in Windows 8 in the official blog. These improvements will make Win8's disk repair more user-friendly, do not disturb the people, and successfully complete the task.

This improvement stems from the fact that today's PC hard drives are getting bigger and bigger. Microsoft even optimizes the disk check function in XP and Win7. Microsoft said the new design is to ensure better file system and disk checking.

Win8 also introduced four health models to support new disk inspections, namely Online and healthy, Online spot verification needed, Online scan needed and Spot fix needed.

Online and healthy: System file corruption is not detected and the user does not need to operate.

Online spot verification needed: The system file has a short-term failure and cannot be self-healing. A certification check is required. This step users still do not need to operate.

Online scan needed: When the certification detection service determines the problem, the system file will be transferred to the status of “always scan needed”. In the next generation of new versions of Windows, users can choose to scan automatically, and the scan will be done in the background, without affecting the use of the computer. At the same time, the verification repair log will be recorded as a future reference.

Spot fix needed: After the above scan verification is completed, if necessary, the Action Center will pop up a notification to let the user restart the computer to fix the system files. The reboot process is fast and returns the computer to a healthy state.
